SCatlyn: Correction for version 1 - "And he wasn't the brightest Light, even though he came from Brighton!" wasn't part of the duke's post. (Accidentally got it in there)
You seem to thrive on causing irritation with your dogma. I don't feel like being irritated today so carry on.. Maybe some of the positivity, happiness and good spirits from other people may even rub off on you

Thats just my incredibly silly humour today... I'm not honestly trying to use Vic Reeves as someone to look up to and revere.. Just humour The fact that some people just won't let things drop just brought his silly saying to mind

Looks like you done in one post what I failed to do all day... Good on you..
Well some people on here were hoping that the could rile me and maybe get me kicked off this site. This place is like home to some people and they do not like blow-ins. But fair play to you you sure put this thread back on its feet. If it wasn't for the Irish.
Tomcats2: I was looking through the United Staes forums and noticed this on the New York one.
According to a books theories its like this... The burger is to blame the sandwich. Pollution is to blame the industrial revolution. Todays wars are to blame English collonialisation. Greed is to blame for English imperialism. England owes each person on the planet around $4000 compensation for breach of human rights. England is to blame for concentration camps and todays genocidesI was wondering what other people felt about these claims?
optomistic68: I agree that one should not dwell in the past but the history should be re-written in a transparent way and then archived.
Howard Zinn RIP just before he died basically wrote a truer version of American and I believe that it will enter the American Colleges
Its a little more complicated than one thinks so the debate has to take place.
My point is that History has not been rewritten or changed, We all know the reasons and the outcome of the famine, it was not right but thats life. If you really want to see truth in history being done, then how about checking the history of Japan, they rewrite their past constantly, even though the overwhelming truth in China is fully documented, same can be said for the Russians.
Neither the British Government nor the BBC have denied what happened in Ireland, to harp on about it just stirs up the sh$t for no real outcome. IMO
Tomcats2: As an englishman born to Irish parents i feel The English and british in general tend to gloss over facts such as the Irish famine and only are happy celebrating peoples weddings that thye have to pay for and remebering wars that their grandfathers fought Never questioning what they did in the past the nasty stuff is not taught in History class today. And never was or will be
Hate to tell you mate, but there was NO FAMINE in Ireland, There was however a Potato Blight that ruined the potato crop and as such the staple diet of the Irish people. During the years of the "FAMINE" there was food a plenty in Ireland... being exported by the land owners and co. That in effect makes what happened more akin to genocide... When they said to connaught or to hell, it meant the same thing
