Sam_131: Yeah okay. I remember United fans telling me
1. "You can spend what you like but you won't finish top 4"
2. "You can spend what you like but you won't win a trophy"

So i'm inclined to not listen to people who have a biased opinion on football anymore

There's lot's of teams who won't win anything but you had to say Liverpool and City, why? Because you're a typical biased United fan

19 titles or no 19 titles you'll always be in Liverpools shadow

And Manchester City are on the rise now, it's not all about Manchester United anymore.

tick tock

I said that in the 2009/10 season. I just thought it was too early for them to hope to break into the top four. There is a huge gulf between mid table and the top four. They had signed a lot of new players together and i figured it would take at least one season to settle down. I knew the following season, they would have a good chance though of winning a trophy and finishing fourth (although i figured it would be the league cup or the FA cup) because they had bought a few more new players but a lot of the squad was the same from the previous season plus Mancini was there longer, was more settled and had more time to put his stamp on the team.

Anyone who didn't think City would win eventually were delusional. Either that or they were just saying that but didn't really believe it. I do think City will win a trophy next season too but i can't see them winning the premiership or the champions League. I reckon they will come close though. It could even be a three horse race next season. I'm sure they will win the premiership eventually if they buy some good, young players for the future. With these new rules coming in, they will only be allowed to spend what they have and won't be able to depend on their rich sheik bailing them out so they will have to be careful. Far be it for me to defend City but people go on about "buying the title" but its not really as simple as that. Yeah it definitely helps if you have money but you also need to buy the right players and turn them into a team. Newcastle United under Kevin Keegan's managership went close to winning the league in 1996 and 1997 thanks to Sir John Hall's millions but still didn't manage to do it.

As for United being in Liverpool's shadow, maybe in terms of the Champions League/European Cup but not in terms of overall trophies and definitely not the League. In terms of the league, Liverpool are playing catch up just about. With Kenny Daglish back at the helm, that may change but we will have to see about that. Time will tell.

You are a true football fan and i respect everything you've just said and actually do not disagree with any of ithandshake

Some Manchester United fans will just not admit that anything good can happen for City. But what you said is true, i don't think we'll win the title next season but we will win it eventually. No club has ever won the League without money, but it goes down your manager and your players at the end of the day. We've been rich since 08 but we only start getting results when we became a team and not just egotistical individuals who didn't care about the club.

As for my remark about Liverpool, it was just banter to annoy Liam for saying we'd win nothinglaugh

Maybe they won't maybe they will? Who knows? I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to bet against Liverpool winning the league at some time during Kenny Dalglish's reign. I don't think it will be next season but you never know. Let's not forget it was only 2 seasons ago when Liverpool should have won the league. The financial and managerial problems that resulted in their slump, are now in the past. 6th and 7th the last 2 seasons is not an accurate reflection of where Liverpool or at. Suarez and Carroll firing on full cylinders is probably the best attacking partnership in the premier, a little bit of tweaking and we'll be right up there.
