scriobhneoir: Maybe they won't maybe they will? Who knows? I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to bet against Liverpool winning the league at some time during Kenny Dalglish's reign. I don't think it will be next season but you never know. Let's not forget it was only 2 seasons ago when Liverpool should have won the league. The financial and managerial problems that resulted in their slump, are now in the past. 6th and 7th the last 2 seasons is not an accurate reflection of where Liverpool or at. Suarez and Carroll firing on full cylinders is probably the best attacking partnership in the premier, a little bit of tweaking and we'll be right up there.

Oh i wouldn't bet against Liverpool winning the league at some time during Daglish's reign either but i can't see it happening next season.

In most cases, Managers who return to a club they were previously successful are rarely as successful the second time around but I think Kenny is different. They did make a vast improvement in terms of performances when he took over compared to earlier in the season and the previous season.

Suarez is a top player but I'm still not convinced Liverpool got value for money with Carroll. If someone had told me they bought Carroll for €24m and Suarez for €35m, I would have said that was probably about right instead of the other way around.

You have to hand it to Kenny though. He did instil a self belief in the players which seemed to be missing under Hodgson and under Benitez particulary in his last season at Liverpool.

Strange decision if you ask me. He could prove to be a great appointment or he could turn out to be the most expensive caretaker manager ever. Personally i think the money would have been better spent keeping Ancelotti and adding the €13m to spend on players. Fair play to Porto for putting that release clause in his contract. They obviously learned their lesson after losing Mourinho in 2004.

Villas-Boas seems like a good manager with lots of potential and he will probably win silverware at Chelsea if he is given time but that seems unlikely as long as Abhramovich is the owner. Most Chelsea managers are not given enough time. Abhramovich seems to change his manager more often than most people change their cars. As soon as Ranieri, Mourinho, Grant, Scolari and Ancelotti had a bad season, they were out the door.

Villas-Boas will also need backing in the transfer market too because a lot of their players are the wrong side of 30 plus because he is only 33, it could be difficult for him to get the respect of the top players like Terry, Lampard and Drogba since he is around the same age as them and he has never played football professionally. He will have to earn their respect right away or he could end up losing the dressing room half way through the season.

I think this a massive season season for them, if they have a trophyless season then i can see them getting rid of Lampard, Terry, Malouda, Drogba and a few more.

If i was Villas-Boas i would do that now and build my own team, out with the old and in with the new, it's the only way of keeping stability

Playing a fairly mediocre team to be honest, was unbelievable under O' Neill and i'm sure Purple Nose will get the best out of him againhelp
