Last year I met this fantastic guy on cs (it didnt work out) and I made up this present idea that I want to share with everyone . . . I made a list of 10 items you can buy from the $2 shop, and bought it all and sent it down. The items were a key ring, a pen, a calendar, a notebook, a diary, a coffee mug, something red, a photo album, a photo frame and a card. Total cost $20, if you were a couple or had someone special in your life, would you like a gift like that?

Not really U know the old saying it's not what you get it's the thought that counts. Don't believe it most folks would put that in the too hard basket. Rather have a cuddle and kiss from that someone special way more personal and meant from the heart. hug

one of the presents that I have given that was appreciated was after only meeting a fella 3 weeks before hand it was his birthday. So I brought a small teddy bear and dressed it up like a football goal umpire as he volunteered umpired for his old footy team. He loved it!

I appreciated any gift that has had some time or thought put into it. It means a lot more than big $.

Merri I hope you have a Christmas filled with lots of love from your kidsteddybear

Sorry but crap from the $2 shop is insulting!
It would have been better to buy a bottle of wine to share, or a big red bow to stick to your nickers & one each on your stilettos top it off with a santa hat & believe me that will get the nod of aproval from any bloke !! .

Uniqie christmas gifts should be something you know the person will relate too

i would love something like that. it is the thought that counts but when you have no money, and other family members do, and they buy expensive gifts....... well xmas just goes out the door for me.
i always hate xmas time. shops get rich and we all get broke. i have a brother that lives about 20 houses away on the same street. the only time we talk is on xmas day and it is like we are the best of friends. total crap i say!!!!! so..... something very small and thoughtful would be lovely. hell, if i just got a bottle of red wine i would be over the moon. i did suggest one year to family, that we just but one nice present for one member drawn out of a hat. MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!!barf

I so totally agree with you Kizzy hate those shops they sell crap hey! better to go buy something from a garage sale get a better buy for your money if you can't afford to spend too much & want to buy cheap that is an idea just a thought. Like I said if I couldn't afford a decent pressy big Hug N Loves is way more meaningful for that special someone.

Anyhow I gotta go to work make some $$ so I can buy some chrissy pressys uh oh C Ya! super wave

curly28: OOPS! hit the postreply button before I had my say

I spend every year with my kids bar one year when my daughter was overseas , usually at my house but we all share the food cost and we give and get nice pressys but it is very costly and I blame me for spoiling my kids cause now I wish it wasn't so costly with them and their partners and just little ol me do the math. But I loves them.

Yep me own fault Cause I know they all mean well. As for my parents don't have any as for my siblings too many so we just phone at Xmas they all live East. We all still love each other pressys aren't everything. But are nice too sometimes. Sorry it's like that with your family merriweather if I was close I'd give you a big hug and a big pressy an expensive one who cares it's only money we can't take it with us.

If we meet up I am gunna take you shopping and buy you a great pressy for your 60th that my dear friend is one very important birthday.

For my 60th my kids shouted me a Cruise 14 days singapore etc!

Wow Curly, you certainly had a wonderful 60th.. and that is so lovely for your kids to do it.. cheering

I have a really great relationship with my boys and daughter in laws and the girls parents... and they were fantastic... its just that they are in the midst of struggling with their own mortgages, and so forth, so I had a great time with them last weekend.. they did the best they could do..and I was really grateful for their company, and what they organised.. that was great.. cheering

It 's my direct family, my parents I struggle with hugely, and my sibling brothers... one cannot help it being mentally ill, and he bless him, sent me a card.

Tis hard when my direct family is fragmented in stages of wealth and jealousy, and to be honest.. I am not a full sister and my parents are Italian, therefore, it is not my 'dads' duty to be looking after me, as I am a girl.. so I accept that.

Unfortunately my mother has full control of everyone, and because I now wont play along anymore... we have reached a place where the fragments are scattered all over...so back to the topic...

Pressies are given to the loyal and compliant, and my son who lives next door has joined me... so he is excommunicated also.. sad flower

So in a few words... Money and pressies equals bowing and cowtowing for us.

Curly, you are a true heart... thanx hun... and if we meet.. Yes, we will share a glass just to celebrate being alive, I guess that for me, just acknowledging another great soul is the key...

Merriweather, that sounds dreadful, its so sad to read about shallow people, when you were obviously being kind, thoughtful and caring! And I totally feel the same way as Curly, Id be happy to post over a big present! You cant choose your family, but you can choose your friends! And Im sure that you and the boys will have a great day

I understand how you feel to a degree, one of my brothers has seperated himself from our family, to the point where he didnt even come to my sons funeral. The last time l spoke to him was xmas day last year when he called mum and had a go at her, she hung up on him and he called back, much to his bad luck l answered told him exactly what l thought of him for acting that way towards mum especially on xmas day and l hung up on him. Havnt heard from him since and as long as he wants to act the way he is l dont want to.

I luv a goodie bag grin

Most Christmases I make one up for my daughter and her husband, individual ones for each of them and they love it laugh

His will usually contain something like gourmet nuts, liquer choccies, an imported beer, a magazine on a subject he enjoys, a cigar and a bottle of aftershave and he gets stuck into straight away laugh

Hers will be a pamper pack, all individually selected things involving something delicious from Lush, a gorgeous scented candle, a piccolo of nice champers, and other lovely girly stuff wine

I think hampers are a great pressie if you've gone to the trouble of selecting all the goodies yourself and kept in mind the kinds of things that people like.

that's a great idea. i have done that a few times for people. a cane basket and then purchase a few little things during the year. a bottle of wine and then nuts, cheeses etc. wrap up and it looks great. all it takes is a couple of extra things each week in your grocery shopping and presto!!
as usual, with only a few weeks to go and i haven't even thought of buying anything yet.

Hi Faithe... wave

Very sensible if that is what you need the most..

I always think that Christmas is a time for pressure, for the kids to be struggling even more so if I was to ask for something like that.. ( not that I'd want those laugh )

Anything for peace... peace

My daughter has decided that she and her husband are going to give me a "day." They will help me with all the garden stuff. Just means I need to buy me a mulcher for me for Xmas so we can get rid of the stuff.
