We get calls at work every afternoon from about 4.30pm (must be kick-off time in Delhi call centres).

You pick up and identify the store .. then there's a delay .. followed by a swift 'click' from me laugh

Like Jem says. you can feel sorry for them probably the only job they can get. I used to feel sorry for these dark guys going around in the heat, one says to me if I dont make a sale I dont get paid. In 2 yrs I changed electricity 6 or more times in the end i had no idea who I was with.

I work on the 2 second rule. If the phone is still 'dead' I wait until they connect and then disconnect (may have cost them a few cents). Most calls I want to take after 6pm are from my daughter. Ongoing opening from us is usually "Ello."

So if my mind is on something else and I miss the cutoff and they ask "Is .........there" I usually reply "Ello." Confuses them a bit so they ask again. "Ellooooo."

And again "Is ...... available?" "Nooooooooohhhh" Usually use a Polish accent as Yes in Polish sounds very much like No in English. Very hard for the "English" ear to pick up the difference let alone other nationalities.banana End of callcheering applause angel

I'm guessing when seeking people, the more messages you send to prospective partners on CS, the more chances you have of getting a reply.
The replies you get, the more chances you have to connect with someone.
The more connections you make = YES

But that yes takes a lot of noes doesn't it?

wash2u: But call them back and they may have had time to think about the offer

I will never 'sign up' at the door. I am polite to them but want to check out the options. Same with phone enquiries.

"Give me your number and if I like your offer, I will contact you."

"This is strictly a 1 day offer, never to be repeated. If you sign up now, I will get my commission. And you have 7 days to cancel this."

2 days later = "Sorry, but I am not able to respond to your request. Please put this in writing and it will be processed in due course. Sory, you must send this as registered mail tom the address provided. There was no address provided? I am very sorry sir but you should have read the fine print before you signed it. Have a good day."

I meant cold calling as in ringing people.

At someone's front door, all a salesperson should ever do is introduce themselves, leave information, ask permission to call back...
If someone has said no over the 'phone, only ever call them back if they say it's ok to and within an agreed time frame.

Same as when dealing with social relationships in many ways. Otherwise it becomes stalking.uh oh

daggyone: Just think, there are a lot of noes on the way to yes.
Philosophically you are correct. Lack of information initially means NO, like when making deals, buying a house…etc Fear is another reason why NO is the first word that comes to mind as the first reaction. Mind you, there is allot off initially certainty about NO up until you give yourself time to reflect and get comfortable with the idea.

commonsense is another misused word accompanied with lack off information. As we know commonsense will neither lead you to the truth nor facts. Facts are the only thing that leads to the truth.

I came to realise this few years ago when a woman sued McDonalds for causing her sever burns after spilling a hot cup off coffee on lap. My first commonsense reaction was, bloody ridicules, what is this world coming to?.. everybody is out there trying to make a quick buck!!! We all have to take responsibility for our own actions.

Later I came across the case on the net.

1st of all McDonalds served her coffee above 75 degrees C. If Maces did the right thing and served the coffee at the required temperature, the person would not have received 2nd degree burns, in case of a accidental spillage. Point 2. As a result this women over the next 2 years had 8 days in total of plastic surgery to her virginal and thigh area.

So you are correct- most of the times NO is not the last word always.

Oops, should have mentioned that the Darwin Awards are an annual award and they do vary when something more approriate does come up.

The Maccas award was probably the origin of the Darwin Awards with Winnabago Cruise Control being the runner-up for most years.frustrated frustrated frustrated frustrated drinking wine beer cheers frustrated cool

Ah, my poor Venere. Is CS for 'connecting singles' or for singles to "connect?" Defintely a conundrum.

I, for one, enjoy the interaction of the single people here on this Forum, and those that have connected and still contribute.

What people put up on their profiles is what they want other people to see the as. The Forums let a lot of us pass on our views on different subjects and does allow people to get a better understanding of us and what we have been through and what we are really looking for in life.

Not sure anyone can tell what I'm looking for in life. I wouldn't be saying it on the forums...but enjoy posting and reading others' comments. For its own sake.
