Does that apply to a woman also? No I wouldn't date a recovering alcoholic. Too many complications.

I'd give them a chance. The person will always be in recovery..But everyone deserves a chance to prove they can change.

geez isn't that like judging a book by its cover? dont ppl who had a drink problem (i guess that could include drugs etc too) in the past deserve a second chance?? dunno

would i date an currant alcoholic, no way, but i would consider a recovering alcoholic that has been "clean" for many years and has moved on with their lives dunno

I see your point Baldy but thats a long way down the line. The fact is that many recovering alcoholics, even years dry, cannot attend weddings, funerals etc etc because of the drink culture attached.

I agree with what you're saying, but the problem for me would be that I would never trust them not to drink again, no matter how long they had been dry, so I wouldn't be giving them a second chance dunno

Yes everyone deserves a second chance but they would have to have been sober for a few years and have put it behind them. Not all recovering alcoholics fall of the wagon time and time again. Don't forget also there are functioning alcoholics which can hold down a job etc and because of that its hard to spot they are actually alcoholics, I wouldn't date one of them because most are still in the denial stage and are seriously hard work.

It would depend how long he'd been in recovery and how sensitive the triggers to breakdown were..
I think.
