Hi Out There!!

I have become a lot more wary on this site but would really like some advice about what to do if people ask straight away for me to message them on yahoo.

If they have internet access, I can only assume that there isn't a very good reason why they can't chat on here...

Am I being over careful in ignoring them?

please help...

Not at all. What's the hurry. Get to know them through here for awhile then move onto Facebook or possibly Skype if everything seems to be going well.

I always tell them it is my policy NEVER to have private contact until I feel comfortable with them and therefore will only share messages on the site until that time. And if it does not suit...I wish you well.

They never come back unless it is to ask for the address again...then I block them.

NEVER give out your contact information until you are positive they are legit.

I used to be considerate and patient and tell them that this site was my preferred means of communication for now. Most of them went away.
Now I just block them and move on.
Bottom line ... you are doing the right thing.
Protect yourself at all costs.

A lot of these scammers are email collectors. They collect email addresses for resale to companies for advertising purposes and such. Once you give them your email address you never hear from them again.
I once made that mistake with a russian woman who contacted me. I gave her my email, never heard from her again and was inundated with russian spam from there on, could not understand any of it.
I eventually had to change my email.

Sometimes i sus them out, like yes i have Yahoo, but what wrong with here, then they say they have problems or something. Maybe you need a new computer, you don't hear back from them as they are after a quick hit before they get thrown off of cs. laugh

I wonder how much they get paid for an address , could be a good earner as I reckon I could set up email address's all night long to sell anybody who pays well .

I would never give out my personal info unless I got to know that person(s) better and then I still would be careful about sharing then.

Never give your email until your trust that person. Follow your instinct.
Not only they'll use your email for spam, they can also do a search on google and find more about you.
Especially if you have your name attached to it. They'll be able to find your previous posts on forums or
any other social network. Stay on CS email, safer.handshake

Wellya can´t chat on here anyway!!!! Unless in the chatroom.....and that´s a bitofa free-for-all.
Ya have to recognise what signifies a scammer......and then it´s down to you whether or notya wanna participate in some personal verbal communication.
Best not to get involved, IMO

Yeah... agree with everyone else... don't give out any more personal information until you feel you know them well enough, and even then be careful. There have only ever been a handful of CS friends that have my e-mail address, phone number etc. If they want to chat, they can do it on here! That's why we are all here! wine

i have only been on gere a short time. but i do like to post a lot of videos, comment on blogs, and add polls.... in doing so, i have gotten quite a lot of the same kind of messages.... honestly,,, i just ignore them to. i have found only a couple real good contacts to chat with. nothing localy, but still a lot of great replies on my posts.
