DaytonaDude: I'm more saddened by the death of Annette Funicello today

Annette Funicello died a very slow death with her disease. Both her and Margaret Thatcher are resting now and it should be in peace. handshake

montemonte: I just heard on the news that she has been in a coma for many years. She sure was a fighter but now the fight is done and she can rest with no more pain. Annette gave those of us in her generation so much joy.

She was a groovy chick for sure wine

What was up with her deliberate 3 fingered wave? I once saw when she was on the steps of Downing street.

I know the 2 finger and of course the one finger wave.
dunno

She caused too much pain. She rode roughshod over families, communities and whole areas of the country. She seemed to revel in her "Iron Lady" role. I hope she runs into Bobby Sands and co where she's going. But I doubt it. Bobby and co went straight to heaven whereas I think the gates of heaven will be slammed in her face.

May the "Iron Lady" find her eternal rest. sad flower

I've always found it difficult to "hate" someone I don't know, whether they be a public or political figure-past or present.

A person who stands up for what they believe in despite the opposition is hard to ignore and tough to forget.

One day, all of us will leave this earthly plane and we can hope that good things are said about us whether true or not. wine

But history will almost certainly proclaim her as one of the greatest British peacetime leaders.

Christine Hamilton, wife of the former Tory MP Neil who served as Minister for Corporate Affairs for Mrs Thatcher between 1992-1994, remembers working closely with the Iron Lady on campaign trails over the years.

Mrs Hamilton, the media personality and self styled British Battleaxe who lives with her husband at Hullavington, near Malmesbury, said: “She was not only a great prime minister but a good friend to Neil and me so we feel her loss on both counts.

“We had some highly rememberable times with her personally and got to run campaigns with her in the 70s and 80s.

“I am incredibly proud that Neil played a part in the Thatcher revolution and have very many happy memories.

“She was a truly amazing woman – she was the great British battleaxe of the century, and a wonderful lady.”

Mr Hamilton, who lost his Tatton seat in 1997 after becoming embroiled in the cash-for-questions scandal and left politics until 2011 when he joined the national executive committee of UKIP, is away today and unavailable for comment

sophiasummer: Plus Thatcher is the main reason why my generation of English can't spell or speak their own language.

Why?

Explain to me please

Because in Britain we have entire communities and towns that exist on benefits thanks to Thatcher. The kids that grow up in these communities, we call them "chavs", are the ones that can't spell or be educated... and the numbers of these kids alone becomes a "norm" and once they reach critical mass it isn't long before their low standards begin to infect the rest of the generation to the point where even middle class British kids are an illiterate joke.

Chavs? (What does that mean?)
That's terrible, so you are saying to me that children in England some don't even get an education because the schools in their area don't know about them>?
Why don't the parents enroll them?

They attend schools - well some of them do, some of the time - but no, I'm saying that watching your family, your friends, your community and everything you've ever cared for decay and collapse around you breeds a sense of hopelessness and listlessness that no amount of "education" will ever penetrate.
