Yup, hard day at the office
epirb: that's a sad story , farming puts you through this all the time having 5-6 work dogs , all the horses , favourite cows ,pet lambs not to mention stinking billy goats . It is never easy and as the years tick by it gets harder putting them down . A lot of work dogs are just that but every now and then one comes along that's special . Same goes for horses .
Emma , last day on the beef cattle before she retired to a dairy farm . Little lady went on to catch a wild pig and a large red hind all by herself , not to mention countless possums and hares , in the three years she was retired before she had to be put down .

It is hard to put animals down.
. what you cannot see in that pic of Harley, that he had an enormous cancer growing on the other side of his face.. It grew very quickly, and got to a point where he could not eat.. and bless him, he gave us all a lot of love in his 11 yrs of life.I guess , since then, we haven't thought about getting another animal... partly because we all work now... ( my kids next door owned him) and partly because it is hard for animals when you have to leave them home..
However Epirb, with your circumstances, being around animals all the time.. that must make for a really happy part of your day.. I get that.. and it would not be any easier for you either, when the time comes to say goodbye...
Your emma is just lovely... sounds like she was a real 'go getter'
too bad I don't have an' emma 'to catch my rougue possum... who btw is still living in my roof...

epirb: Border Collie ,supposed to have been well bred . Looked more like and behaved like a big fox , just wrong color . She had a little quirk , after tying her up as you moved away she would take a bite at our legs , then sit there with a look of butter would not melt in her mouth .
