The wombat is the largest burrowing mammal. Indeed, it is such an accomplished burrower that early settlers called it a 'badger'. However, its closest relative is in fact the koala. With its short tail and legs, characteristic waddle and 'cuddly' appearance the wombat is one of the most endearing of Australia's native animals.

i have seen people with pet Wombat, people with Wombat walking down the road on leash like a dog, so i guess they can be domesticated.

Victoria is the only state where they are not a protected species, all other states have legislation protecting the Wombat

On farm they are quite big nuisance as the both dig holes which horses can easily break leg in, also they wreck fences

I think Australia has the most awesome beautiful birds. And I love your big big big lizards. Tho here in Florida in my area the south part they are starting to get humongous snakes and lizards. People get them as pets and find out they are quite a responsibility then set them free. They are not indigenous to our area so they threaten our native wild life blues happy place..... hmmm and some people also. So they have tightened the laws on owning those kind of pets now. I would say most likely to little to late. They are here and like our dad blasted love bugs they will multiply and cover larger and larger areas. Boy that was a finger full (instead of mouth full since I am typing) grin teddybear

cool.....Did you know south Florida is the only place that has Alligators and Crocodiles living side by side. Most lands can have one or the other not both. At least that is what I have been told so be careful where you step whilst saving me. I do so love the gators, the crocs are a little crabby blues Not many bears in my area tho grin

Oh dear hope I can explain this. Must not be an expression in your area sigh When someone talks a long explanation here we might sometimes say when thru " Whew that was a mouthful " as in words ......so since we do not talk on the forums we type I replaced mouth with fingers uncertain Soon I will be getting ready for work. That is more scary than the bears, crocs, and gators combined. Just walking thru the gossip meal here lately without being cut to shreds is a trick crying Have a good day or evening or what ever time you read this bouquet

Didn't know you could buy gators at a grocery shop , getting them alive must make them fresher and easier to keep without a fridge .

A lot of animals introduced to NZ have caused problems for our ground nesting birds . As NZ had no mammals native to NZ , mammals have thrived because of nothing predates on them ,pigs possums deer goats ferrets stoats cats rats mice . Left to their own , it would make a mess of our forests . That's just the mammals , then theres the weeds and fish . I often wonder why they never brought in foxes pumas crocs leopards . Thank krist they didn't as we spend millions controlling the imports now ,my council rates for possums would be over $ 1000.00 every year . My son and his mate got 35 possums Saturday night , 2 kg's of fur , not here though as there would not be 35 possums in 20 square km's .
P.S. be a bit tricky snooping around after a fat little porker if theres effing leopards eying up the same pork .Jezzz ,makes the hair on my neck stand up just thinking about it .
