epirb: Didn't know you could buy gators at a grocery shop , getting them alive must make them fresher and easier to keep without a fridge .

A lot of animals introduced to NZ have caused problems for our ground nesting birds . As NZ had no mammals native to NZ , mammals have thrived because of nothing predates on them ,pigs possums deer goats ferrets stoats cats rats mice . Left to their own , it would make a mess of our forests . That's just the mammals , then theres the weeds and fish . I often wonder why they never brought in foxes pumas crocs leopards . Thank krist they didn't as we spend millions controlling the imports now ,my council rates for possums would be over $ 1000.00 every year . My son and his mate got 35 possums Saturday night , 2 kg's of fur , not here though as there would not be 35 possums in 20 square km's .
P.S. be a bit tricky snooping around after a fat little porker if theres effing leopards eying up the same pork .Jezzz ,makes the hair on my neck stand up just thinking about it .
I really don't remember seeing gator in the grocery store. Tho some of the resteraunts serve it around here. They only let you hunt gator certain times of the year. When I was little girl you could not hunt them at all. It was illegal. My grand children and children will pick up the silliest of animals. She really should not be picking them up dunno I do have a lot of respect for the gator. They can move faster than a lot of people think and do a lot of bodily harm. We have foxes, wolves, bears, raccoons, possums, armidillos and a whole bunch of other animals native to this area. You are not missing anything without them. They can be a pain in the butt. We have several large breeds of cats. A friend of mine actually killed a 250 pound jaguar years ago. No one knows how it ended up in our stick marsh. Said if it was someones pet it had been in the wild a long time. I do believe that was the biggest cat in this area. Do you have marshes and swamps in New Zealand? And what are council rates? writing It is not like a tax is it wow

Aw Merri Florida is gorgeous grin Most the animals that are wild try to avoid the areas that are occupied by humans. Once in a while tho someone will wake up to a alligator in their pool or on their door step. Not often usually they stay in the marshes and swamp areas. Not to far from where I live now. I grew up that way. And loved it. Back then youth afforded me the ignorance of how dangerous the animals were. I use to swim in a creek with gators sunning on the otherside. Taught my children whilst swimming keep an eye open for eyeballs coming at them laugh Now I have matured I swim in the ocean and pray I don't stumble across a shark mumbling yet now if I pulled up at a swimming hole and seen gators I would never get in the water there. I actually do not know of a country that does not have some kind of devasting weather or dangerous animal in it. I live in a populated area now. Tho I do have raccoons, possums, squirrels etc....they are more a nuisance than a fear. Sometimes our wild animals will get rabies. Does Australia have rabies? Not the country but sometimes in your wild animals? uh oh

The big cat was not indigenous to my area. At one time years and years before my birth there were train tracks in that area. The trained had an accident and as rumors have passed down thru the years sprinkled with truth and imagination the story is said it was a circus aboard the train (which is suppose to be truth) they have a town here in Florida where most our circus people retire too. Don't know why just has always been dunno And every now and then they find something unexplainable in that marsh such as the large cat and that is the fuel for more stories of the train. I have never seen it but they say there are animals sometimes you see out there similar to a big foot and also one similar to a lochnest monster. wow Don't know if you can read it Merri but here is the old news paper article on the big cat. Slightly wrinkled, the paper not Roger. tho he is slightly wrinkled today uh oh Just in case he ever sees this I would like to add professor Still one of the most handsome men I have ever seen and also taught much about living in swamps and being able to survive on what nature provides.

Hi happy
American troops apparently brought a Gouger mascot or two to Australia during WW2, and maybe let loose a Panther in Victoria to.
Dunno what the truth is, but worse think they also seeded a few offspring as well

Merriweather: You crack me up laughing... I guess you have never seen a wombie before.. they are harmless...

My son worked in a large private zoo (Featherdale in Sydney) for a number of years and fairly often hand-raised a number of animals, including wombats. Hardest was when he had a kangaroo and wombat at the same time and they were on 2-hour & 3-hour feeds, not much sleep for him. And they would always come up to him for a year or so after for a pat. Tourists thought it was cute the way animals would follow staff around like a pet dog.

Wombats can be very territorial and most of the older males were in single enclosures. They even had that "cute & friendly" one that was in the Country Practise TV series. Noone was allowed within his enclosure to clean it unless 2 others were on watch as it would attack anyone who came into the enclosure.

Wombats, like snakes, are harmless until you get in their way.

You won't see them in shops anywhere . They are home builds , built with an X US tubes with what looks like camera lenses . The lenses need a 42 mm thread which I believe is standard size and can use any lenses that fit . This one weighs about 2 kg , the little one I got last week is so light I thought the box was empty . There is a problem , when looking through the thing (small one ) the light of the screen causes one eye to be affected by the light , stop looking through it and your eye feels like you have blinded it till it gets used to the dark like other eye . China made the little one . To stop right eye blindness I might put little remote laptop camera up to eyepiece of the big grunter and watch on screen . There is a lot of info on the trade-me link , fella usually sells on e-bay

Thank you Happygirl for the news clipping.. gosh it was so clear, I could read it all wave
Retired circus people area... gosh, do you go speak with these people... because I bet the conversations would be interesting..

I am sure that Florida is just beautiful... I remember the shots of your beach and sky when you first bought your new camera...

laugh

I have nothing exciting like you have in my area... just some pesky possums, and lots of birds, the odd snake in the summertime, and lots of lizards.. but I quite like lizards.. I find them to be really cute..

The only thing that is particular to my area, is that being cold here in the valley, in the autumn, I get all happy around the cold, the rotting autumn leaves and wood fire smells.. nearly everyone here has wood fires, and on dusk, when I drive home into the valley, you can see puffs of smoke coming out of everyone's chimneys...

yeah i reckon most are, and any panthers the yanks let loose would have died.
However with my own eyes, Merve Berry at Upperlansdown NSW show me old film photo of him holding a Tasmanian Tiger he had shot in his chicken cope.
He heard a ruckus an on investigation two Tasmanian Tiger were hocking into his chickens, he shot one of them through its mouth when it took to him.
Merve is an Old Salt, a bushie with a heart of gold, a logger, sawmill owner, own bulldozer, hounded by lawyers and the cops but an honest guy, he shot Tasmanian Tiger on Mount Combyne NSW in 1950's

geepers!i wouldn't go spreadin tht around robbo lol,i suppose if youre getting attacked a shot is the only answer though.but I wouldn't doubt that for one minute, that there could be Tassie tigers here,on the blokes place I used to manage,he has 1200 acres, and wild dogs were on the hunt, and a few neighbours and myself were driving around,we knew they were in th property, but we couldn't find them,so they are so good at hiding,i can imagine a animal like a tigr would be even better at concealing themselves.ive seen a Tassie devil, washed up on the beach at wilsons promontory ten yrs ago.we just don't know whats really out there, cant blame the animals from hiding from us stinkin humans, weve ruined their lives.
