When was the last time? Who was the last monarch of Scotland before they became part of the UK/Britain? Not sure. Charles? Long, long time ago anyway!!! 18th Century, I think.

tomcatwarne: I don't think they will break away, if they get a better deal and more financial concessions out of it, good luck to them, but a few are in it for power, On the point of Europe it is in England's interests to break away from Europe, we're financially propping up half of it. In that instance it would make sense for Scotland to break away from the UK, and stay with Europe to collect the loads of lovely subsidies from them

Agreed on everything but the idea that it would be nice for Scotland to vote independent. The EU would probably scrap many of the perks Scotland currently gets from Westminster(lower student fees, free prescriptions etc..)with austerity cuts that make Cameron look soft.

Northern Ireland is too small to be independant and we can't afford to take it back, truth be told I'd say the Brits would throw it back in a heartbeat if they could.
It must cost them a fortune to keep it going.

I agree with jean...it's up to the scots. I think they would handle independence just fine if they go that route
