I think some people have a morbid fascination with others suffering because they think that while it's happening to someone else it's not happening to them. Pain and suffering is infinitely more tolerable when it's happening on tv and in someone elses country.
In a bombed out village in Vietnam. Caught in the crossfire in Northern Ireland. Dodging bullets on sniper alley in Sarajevo. Beheaded on Northern Iraq.
serene56: Some do, because they are miserable gits who rejoice in having miserable depths in which to plunge their miserable minds I don't, because I'm an optimist and believe life is meant to be enjoyed with pleasure squeezed out of every moment
well said , yes life is about enjoying , making lasting memories and living " don't worry BE HAPPY"
Take a village, any village, then lets say the village vicar has invented a new and fast way to learn a new language, now lets say the same vicar was caught in a compromising position with the wife of the butcher, which news will be headlines in the local paper?
There is the answer to your question
Bad news travels faster than light, good news is like snail mail in comparison.
And as the media gets stronger, so this idea becomes a part of normal life
Peach.. Yes. We are all impress with the "dark side." The other side is boring and non - news worthy. What do you read in the newspaper or watch on tv - dark news. You don't hear about the guy who help an old lady cross the street or the Good Samaritan who stop and help a damsel in distress fix her tire.

I see news coverage all the time about people helping veterans who are hospitalized, soup kitchens when a hurricane or tornado hits. A police officer saw that the only toy a child had to play with was a rolled up sock. He bought toys for that child from his own pocket.
