2intrigued: That's right, the penny is now history. When you go to buy something now, something that is for example, $2.91 or $2.92 will be rounded out to $2.90 but if it's $2.93 or $2.94, it gets rounded out to $2.95. If you use a debit card, you pay the exact amount with no rounding out.
I've been saving dimes for about a year and a half. The little piggy was full so the other day I took it to the cash counting machine inside the bank to be counted and I learned that I saved $91.00
2intrigued: Call the local MP close to voting day and it'll be free.
Yea, I might put in my 2 cents worth on voting day. I guess now it would be my nickel' s worth.
Just kidding though. I have found most MP' s have been pretty good. They will help out with something when they can. Sometimes though everyone' s hands are tied with government red tape.

Yep, I have no complaints about the local MP's either...they're pretty good at addressing any issues within their powers and usually pretty quickly too.
why are you picking on Canadians? do you have tipping experience with all nationalities? are others better than Canadians? I thought in Europe tipping is included as a service charge added to one's bill.
I am a Canadian and I AM NOT at all cheap. I hardly ever go out to eat or drink anyway. In fact, I don't drink at all and I follow a very strict diet. I am a vegan. I eat mostly fresh fruits and fresh organic vegetables, sometimes even raw veggies. My breakfast this morning is going to be only fresh avocados and some fresh blueberries.
I think people should not even tip if they receive lousy service.

thank you, merci beaucoup! yes, the best country in the world!
yes some of us canucks are crazy, crazy playing hockey.
no, it is not CANADA DAY today but Thanksgiving Day, the Canadian way.
True. ..had a friend who worked at the orient express train..and was always complaining abt Canadians asking for tea at 4 in the morning and not a thank you ..a tip?..lol... (not my own experience though)
"Tips" are not obligatory and if they are given it should reflect the service given. Some service is rubbish but they still expect a tip. They get a good tip from me for good service, but if the service is not good they get nothing.

I agree totally
Tips should not be obligatory, but earned
As for US V Canada tipping wars , would it be possible that the base wage in the US warrants extra tipping. This may not be as necessary in Canada? Just a thought.

It could be or it is now in there culture. Here in Spain tips are not expected, but when given a sensible amount is given.
So, in Spain, do you give tips for only food service, or do you tip for other services too..
Just enquiring around other cultures... learning like..
Generally the Spanish only give tips for food service. There are of course the odd occasion when they will give a small tip at a hotel for carrying the suitcases for example, but if a tip was not given in any circumstance then it would not be frowned on here.
