I've enjoyed learning about other women from around the world on CS, their culture, the things they do as adults and now I'm curious about their childhood.
Were you a tomboy or a princess?
Did you like to play baseball with the boys team or did you like to play tea and crumpets with other little girls?
Did you like to wear tomboy clothes or a ballerina dress?
I wasn't necessarily a tomboy per se but I did like to climb the tree in our backyard.
Every day I would try to go one branch higher then the day before but I never reached the top
Which one were you and do you still have some tomboy or princess in you?
secretagent09: How cool you were. I wore my mother's high heels too when she was at work. When my father was building something I knew when to hand him the square, a hammer or screwdriver.
You were a hard core tomboy Trigs.
My daughter was very much like you. She had a tree fort outside but her bedroom was very girlie.
Pulling legs off spiders
We women learned to multitask at a very early age.
Drove my mom around the bend and my dad would just laugh. He was a landscaper so he taught me how to bundle shrub roots out in the garage where he ran his landscaping business. Something changed over the years...I no longer play with spiders. But yeah, we are great at multitasking and not necessarily by choice.
complete tomboy. hands in the pockets all the time refused to wear dresses. loved wrestling, climbing trees, trucks and basketball. I used to tape my boons down with duct tape and clingfilm when they started growing at 11. I was HORRIFIED that my body could do such a thing to me lol!
I could never understand what I was supposed to do with dolls...they Did nothing!
At least cap guns fired; trees could be climbed; Scalextric went fast and could crash; lego built; and I learned early, that handcuffs held someone at your mercy ..

Dolls...the ones with a hole in their mouth to feed them water and a hole in between their legs for the water to come out into a diaper were great fun and were far from being boring. The diaper stayed dry and the dolls hollow leg would fill up with water (sometimes milk) and you'd end up pulling the dolls legs off to get the water out. Maybe that's where I got the training for pulling legs off spiders.
I loved being in the princess role and still do. Waiting for that Prince to come shower me with affection..lol OK I know fantasy relationships don't really exist..but sure hoping my special guy will give me plenty of those special moments.
It's kind of odd though..because now I rarely dress up..even though I like to do it and it makes me feel prettier. I guess jeans are just so easy, comfortable and make more sense while doing my chores around the house and all.
I'd spend hours playing with pretty pebbles, racing my bicycle through the veld, splashing in streams and overseeing meetings of my all-girl 'gang'. But I would always sneak back to my room to make sure my dolls were prettily dressed, wrapped up against the cold and always accompanied by other toys to ward off any loneliness they might feel. Then back into the garden to set up experiments with my brother's Young Scientist Chemistry Set, or to climb up into a tree with one of my sister's books to read until the sun came down. Wonderful days, they were.

I was a tomboy. I didn't like playing with dolls and the like, but much preferred Lego or damaging the skirting boards, when I crashed my Brother's Scalextric cars into it. That was if I was ever in. Most of the time, we'd be out in the local woods making dens or getting ourselves covered in duckweed as we fell of the ropeswing. Mum used to love that, as she'd always scream at us both.

My brother had one of those Scalextric sets but I wasn't allowed to play with it. I did get a wonderful toy sewing machine that actually worked and I gathered bits and pieces of fabric and made myself a 'strip tease' outfit. Had no idea what a strip tease was but I'd heard the grown-ups talk about it and it sounded rather a glamorous career choice to the 6 year old me.

What your Brother didn't know, wouldn't have hurt him. Though, the smell (oooh, that's something I'll never forget) will give it away.
Oh, God. I had the sewing machine. Gran (I think) thought it would make a wonderful gift. I only used it (under Mother's orders) when she visited, as I recall crying when opening the box and seeing it wasn't the radio controlled car I had begged and dropped hints over, and promised, for several months.
I need to go and lie down now, as repressed memories...
