MarsMan: Faith in our leaders to do good is something I no longer have, all I see is popular media grabbing sound bites, and a race to be the most political correct, and who can get the most retweets on twitter and likes on Facebook, whilst creaming as much off the top as they can without getting caught.

Faith???? I think we need a new religion!!!

Put your faith in Rock'n'Roll....hasn't done me any harm (although my mother would disagree)

stanley8m: We are all humans, what exactly do you mean by oil and water don't mix, and how is this applicable in a humanitarian crisis?

We,ve different beliefs, different ways of
Living our lives,it's a recipe for civil wars
In the future

Don't think the Irish after shaking off many
Shackles in recent years want the shackles
Of sharia law creeping in

JT these people are fleeing persecution, war and death in their own countries.

And you are denying them sanctuary because they have different beliefs than you, that isn't very Christian now is it?

Orien3: I think Saudi Arabia, UAE and Quatar that are rich places should take them as well since they are closer to their culture

Most Syrians and others wouldn't want to go to an oppressive, totalitarian country such as Saudi Arabia. Culturally, they would be worlds apart.

Self preservation, where do we draw a line?
Take thousands from every war, they're not
Even being vetted, I saw four of them from
Dunned laughing Friday their jackets full of
Stolen goods

Why don't they stand up and fight not run like
Cowards, you didn't address why they're not
Going to rich Arab countries

jt972: Same media trickery in the Balkans war, the west
Printed a picture of a seriously emancipated man in
A prison camp and made out to the world that the Serbs
Were starving the Croats, turns out he had cancer

The lads behind him looked well fed

Sheep fall for these cons

'seriously emancipated'???? that means he was seriously free, so if he was free how come he was in prison?

stanley8m: JT, have you a problem with Ireland accommodating refugees?

Would you rather these poor impoverished people were sent back to a life of hell or even death in their own countries?

I'd rather they stood up and fight and do themselves
Proud!
Apparently these people are some of the countries
Brightest, the very ones that need to stay and
Not run from bullies

And why come to a contenant that spawned Isis
With their American, Israeli buddies?

stanley8m: So now you are agreeing with Enoch Powell, and paraphrasing his rivers of blood speech.

Never read it... Rather speak from the heart
Than trawl the internet to back up my arguments

GalwayGuy35: Seems we are going to increase the number previously agreed upon to several thousand now.

I've heard figures anywhere between 10 to 40 thousand.

If we take in a few, I hope they might bring a few good soccer players with them. Maybe we might make few hurlers out of a few of them.

Anyway, it won't be near 40,000 here. A couple at the most I'd say.

I was just listening to an interview with a Syrian woman, on radio
about the refugee crisis, she was a student at Limerick University, she now lives and works in Dublin, it was a good balanced interview.

She was asked in lieu or the problem in Ireland with homelessness,
should Ireland take in more people, and her response was.
"who caused the problem", it wasn't the syrian children that are lying on the streets hungry ,in unbelievably awful conditions, not comparable,
with conditions in Ireland, she said that the government, can sort this out for both the refugees, and the Irish people .

Somehow she seemed to make a lot of sense.

the problem is our government isnt really doing much to sort out our own housing situation. this is adding fuel to the fire and i dont think we ve seen the worst of our housing problems yet. i see big trouble ahead regarding this issue. i like everybody else have been watching this war unfold. im deeply saddened by what i read and watch, but talking in pure practical terms, how do we house these people and our own? this whole situation is a major mess. i suspect ireland isnt alone with these housing problems at the moment.
