cruiser68: And what an ICON stripped of his title, because of his beliefs, went to bottom ranking, then fought his way back to the top, to reclaim HIS tile.
rebel2: You always said you were the greatest, and you proved it time and time again. R.I.P
He was an ambassador, not only for people of colour, but also for those who fought against the odds, believed in themselves and strove to achieve the very best. And he did that

He was and continued well after his boxing career ended.
Olderbutnowiser: Definitely the peoples champion but I changed my mind about him being the greatest after the Floyd Patterson fight.
Aside from a prior back injury on Patterson which should have postponed that fight, he and Ali planned to stage it for money...according to this article;
It says that eventually Ali knew something was wrong with Patterson and expected the refs to stop the fight, but they didn't, so Ali continued but pulled his punches, hoping they would eventually stop it. By the 12th round it was evident that Patterson's injured back was hurting him badly, so Ali ended up having to knock Patterson out just to stop the fight.
There's a lot more interesting stuff in that article, it's worth a read.

Oh dear - So sad - He was so generous to the disabled doing charity gigs on the quiet and talented even outside of the ring as stand up comic. He will be remembered for life and missed by all of us who ever met him here in the UK.
