I was in a band 30 years ago (bassist) and we wrote gazillions of verses and snippets of choruses etc. But only managed a handful of 'complete' numbers.

This song has a deceptively happy beat while he prays for something he'd be better off without...

There's a lot more to it.
He ends up with the woman of he prayed for, cheated and fooled by all kinds of men for trusting the wrong woman, his hair cut off by a strange man while he slept peacefully on her lap, having his eyes blinded, tormented in misery: and at the end, only praying to be avenged for his blind eyes.
