What was the nature of the injury you sustained? Where is the pain located? When did the injury occur and what if anything has been done about it?
Welcome to the site. My sister in law was from Dunfermline. She was a war bride. My brother brought her home with him after the 2nd world war. She was a fine lady. They had 4 daughters and 1 son.

I googled this as I'd never heard of it before conversing

It must be very debilitating, I wonder whether if there are support services that you can access to assist you not only in this regard, but holistically conversing

I think it's ok if we support each other on here, many are alone, and reaching out can help conversing

jac_the_gripper,

I too knew nothing about this subject from the OP, and found your response both helpful and informative.

To the other people asking if the site has become a kind of Google, I think you will find a forum is for discussing things of interest to individuals.

When it comes to pain, my experience has been, people do not want to hear about it. What they want is for you to Smile through the Pain and like Tiny Tim in a Dickens tale, say "God Bless Us One and All/". Suffering is suppose to make a better man of you. And if you buy that I can give you a good price on the Brookllyn Bridge.

Here in the US we have an epidemic of old people overdosing on pain pills. The politicians answer being to punish the doctors who prescribe these controlled drugs. This is not to say I endorse suicide. If that was your answer, you probably would not be here looking for answers.

I am sorry to say, I don't have an answer for you. I do know medical researchers are making incredible inroads with MRI brain scans. There is also some interesting, though heavily frowned upon, work with stem cells that could well lead to tissue regeneration.

Me, I use sarcasm and dark humor to stay sane. It is not Tiny Tim, but it works for me.

Sir -- It is not OK for the ignorant to take the piss out of your illness - They have most likely never served in the forces. -- I have and I also have friends who share some similar interests to mine so we all have some awareness of Neuropathiic pain.

You don't say which service you were with - But - May I suggest you seek ex Forces Medical services help, say, from your Regiment, Army Navy Or RAF Medical services branch or by contacting Combat Stress Scotland direct for their advice and possible help ?

wave I also suffer from neuropathic pain in my left shoulder from my roofing days.sigh
It debilitated me at one point, but I have found physiotherapy, traction,heat/cold pads, and daily exercise helps.
I have to constantly be aware of my shoulder tensing up, it draws right upwards to my ear sometimes without me realizing it. I also use what is called a TENS machine, that is quite common here for this type of injury. Works really well as you can walk around with it on and noone even knows your wearing it. Also I have found massage treatments work well on a biweekly basis for me anyways.
Sorry to hear about your plight, hope you can find some relief soon.hug wave

With respect - Tens machines may help for muscle strain like we used to get in Engineering machine and Fitting shops when I was working, but, as he said, it was a military injury, so I suggest the Neuropathy treatment he needs now will probably have to be more intensive. wine wine handshake
