Since last evening, over 24 hours ago, I noticed one of My Cows was gone... I walked around the property, calling for her... I did here her call back about dark, it sounded as if she was across the fence...She has a Calf, the calf was hollering for her too...It got dark, so nothing I could do...figuring she would get back to her calf... I got up early this morning looking for her and Nothing... I had some Important business today, I got home and looked and called for her..I could not find any tracks on the next property at all.... I had walked close to two miles between last evening and today looking, I was baffled...as I cut up through the center of my property, I found her, Stuck in a ditch in the mud and water...She was alive...Over 24 hours in freezing cold water....I got my tractor, and a wide Nylon strap, put it around her head, and drug her up into the field... She was too cold to move...It will probably take her a few hours to get her temperature back normal.. I went to the next field, picked up some corn that was dropped during harvest...used my coat as a bag, brought her some corn..so when she can hopefully move she can get some energy enough to get back up...I have a meeting tonight..It just got dark here...when I get back from the meeting, I will go check on her and see if she may possibly make it? She has probably been out of the water for about 45 minutes. I hope she will survive and get back to her feet, As for now she is in My Hospital room, out in the field...No Cards or gifts please...Just a Prayer or positive thoughts for Her, and Me... are Greatly Appreciated... I will update in a few hours...

Healing for the mummy cow and the calf missing his mum.
KNenagh: Hope the girl will be ok - can you get a couple of blankets to put onto her?
Warm water with bran is something cows that need a boost like.
Her lower jaw was kinda in the water and she is too cold to move her mouth.. It is actually the warmest day we have had for a while... Nothing I can do till she warms up. and starts moving to get her circulation back...Only time will do her any good, she is way back there.. I have a meeting to get to this meeting, and have to leave promptly...

Their is not much I can do except give her time to to warm up, and the meeting is quite Important...or I would cancel it...Gotta go...I will check her when I get back. It has already been a long day....

I would rub her down and move her legs to get her circulation going. She can be gone in the morning if you don't do something to help her warming up.

It breaks my heart to know that your cow is out there in the field all by herself and freezing like that. If it were me, I'd find some way of carting her back to shelter and getting her warmed up and her wee calf will have it's mother back. Please let us know how she's doing...poor thing.

OnlyLiveTwice: Cancel your meeting. I would.
Exactly I would not have even gone to bed till I found her... let alone go to any meetings... she and her calf are more important. Thrown some blankets on her..
I have lived on a dairy farm .. and a horse breeding Ranch... everything was done for the animals before we even thought of ourselves..

I had covered her up with hay earlier, I have been back there with her for a quite a while, he is slowly warming up, but still plenty cold, I have been moving her legs..I had packed hay up and under her legs, and head to keep them off of the ground....she is starting to move them some on her own, but not much... You know how long roast takes to get thawed out, Imagine how long it takes about 900 Lbs... I have raised Cow and calves for 0ver 30 years..this is not my first rodeo...truth being told, some times they make it some times they dont.... I have a bad back and pulling on her legs and hauling hay across the field is not easy...She is not close to the house... and the best way to get to her is walk.. I have walked back and forth several times..I am beat, but I will keep checking her regularly....

I really hope the cow and the calf survive…As you would know...cows are very good mothers and very protective of their young…
it is a very sad what has happened and do you have any ideas...how it could have happened?
Yes I have pond back there they usually drink out of and a ditch of running water feeding the pond, she just tried to cross where she normally don't and got stuck in the mud and water flowing... The calf is big enough to take care of itself...but always better when feeding from the cow..the calf is 3-4 months old...well on his way..

He might have many animals to take care of and limited time? If he tried to move the cow...she might die of shock...her natural surrounding is a opened field...but I agree blankets may warm help to warm her body up

Maybe the cow is exhausted...but not injured? has she shown any improvement?
Many years ago...One of my sheep had fell into my stream and I found her dead...very sad that she suffered in such away...
we like to make things safe for our animals...but we can't always stop bad things from happening...I used to have 18 sheep on my smallholding...but now have only one...old age...illness and other unknown factors have taken those sheep...loss is a hard thing to deal with...but you have to be strong and learn to deal with it...those who can cope with losing animals...should not have pets...cause the time will always come...when you will potentially lose them.
The one sheep is a real survivor and she has lived on her own for years...she is content and loves her evening meal of sugar beet...in her shelter...yes the sheep is a pet and land grazer...

She has been covered with thick hay....all the way to her face... It take a long time to warm up Approx. 900 Lbs. I am doing all that I can do...She is My Buddy..

F00K 0|=|= Lee,
I guess you know about farming as much as you do about women.. which is zilch!
How do you know he is a "true" animal lover... where did you get that impression from..??? is that your alt profile? If he doesn't have time to look after his animals he certainly doesn't have time for a woman.
I get the impression he obviously doesn't care about HIS animals or couldn't be bothered... NO farmer I know would leave an animal who is obviously in distress overnight without going out to find the cow? and then another full day leave her in the middle of the field.. with no cover. (yeah he didn't say originally.. oh he forgot to mention that he covered her up with hay.. yeah right... that was added as an afterthought)
If he has MANY animals to take care off and he can't, then he shouldn't have that many animals ... she most likely even needed a vet.. since she couldn't even move her jaw. and if you are a true farmer your animals mean everything to you.
AND he should have called a vet if there was a chance of her dying ! However the cow more likely could have died for not being taken care of...yes of course blankets and company was what she needed. No one leaves an animal in distress a full 12-20 hrs...
Lee, DON'T talk to me.. you condescending B|tch. Go and get your jollies somewhere else.
He should ask himself "so you want to be a farmer"!!.. cause he is doing a lousy job.
YES! I am really cross... I am sorry... nah! NOT sorry... I immensely dislike people who mistreat their animals/pets that also includes partners and kids.... I am out...
