I am all for a clean planet and cleaning up the environment.

The truth is however, we are so dependent on petroleum for our modern lives, we will always be dependent on it until it eventually runs out. Petroleum is so much more than oil and fuel. Petroleum products are many and cannot be recreated without it. Everything from additives in food to plastic to electronics to various chemicals used in many other products we use and take for granted everyday. If petroleum were suddenly took out of the picture, it would be like sending society back to the 1800s in many ways.

The real truth is though that petroleum is non renewable and will eventually run out and then humanity is going to have no choice but to get by without it. If that is going to be the eventuality, we need to start thinking outside of the box now and start research on petroleum free replacements for what we take for granted now. That won't happen though, humanity usually don't think about the future, only the moment they are in right now and right now, it costs money to research something that may not benefit you directly in your lifetime and most economically driven industry just won't do it. When petroleum eventually gets too hard and expensive to access, there is going to be a real crunch put on society to adapt and change.

My province is a "oil province", the amount of petroleum offshore is massive and its all top grade sweet crude. Our boom is only started and we will prosper from it for years to come.

It will however eventually come to a end. The petroleum will eventually all be tapped, the rigs destroyed, and we will be left with bust. My province was never known for having good governments and I suspect that the royalties from the petroleum will be squandered and nothing will be save for the future when we will need it.

[ Quote] Oil is part and parcel of so much that revolves around us – from fuels to petrochemical products, which themselves form the basis for mobile phones, cables, creams and even clothing. And so the question is not without merit: is a world without oil even conceivable in the future? [ Unquote ]

It's a tough one. I was thinking a similar thing today. I started my car so I could fiddle with my phone in air conditioning, as countless millions did today. If it weren't petrolium, it would be biofuel, and how many acres of canola would be wasted for us to be sitting in air con while Africa etc. starves? Its a complicated issue, as is places that rely on employment and economic inputs of petroleum industry, there are no easy answers.

But at least you are thinking about it, and made people like me think about it. So thats something I guess.

The problem for most people is accepting that there IS a problem in the first place. We so take for granted all that is available to us ,like cars, electronic gadgets, flight etc etc. The list is endless.

The youth of today are trying to stand up against the giants in this world who would denigrate such people as Greta Thunberg, who in my humble opinion is making waves, however small or large with regards global warming and the bad practises of mankind in general. We only have to look at the shrinking of the animal world to know that the course we are on is not a good one.

Again J.M.O.handshake

Our lives won't change that much, as developed countries. Sure, the petrol V8 is a dinosaur and electric cars are only just marginal at the moment, they work a treat in Norway where they've got cheap hydro electricity. We can work aound it.

Do we have a right to tell developing countries like India and China- OK you've gone from the bicycle and ox cart to the car in the last few years, but now you must go back to the bicycle and ox cart because we have been driving cars for the last 50 years... There is an unfairness in that. And with Canada, there is an unfairness with tar sands. There's no easy answers, or they'd have been adopted years ago.

We can't count on our generations to change things, its going to be the youth because by the time they are carrying the weight of the world, its going to be more polluted, crazier weather, more civilizations starving to death, that much closer to the point of no return. I hope they make real changes.

The efficiency of combustion has come on a hell of a long way, cars are one of the few things undeniably better today than they were in the past. When men really care about something like they do about cars, there is hope. Hope that men can gain a sense of priority completely different to those Americans feeding all our antibiotics to pigs.

What I said was under the assumption of being smart as a society as a whole, I know that telling other countries what to do is questionable but the big day is coming whether its 100, 20, 500 or however many years in which petroleum will be tapped out and then those countries are going to have the same crunch as the developed countries.

The problem is, the initial steps are hard and expensive and when you got poor countries that can't feed its population, you can't expect them to give up the few things they do have and completely change the face of its society which will be expensive. Power and fuel is not cheap when it comes from petroleum and usually costs more when it comes from other sources.

Mercedes_00: Oh mate I love the heat but the smothering wind plus humidity which never bothers me really knocked me around..Working out in a heated pool had me feeling sickly.
That means you are running too hot, you were risking a heat stroke. When it gets so hot plus being in a heated pool, your body just can't cool down and your internal temp goes up and it don't have to be a lot to cause heat stroke. Be careful Merc please.
