Not read through the thread but to me personally. Black Friday is an American thing that has now spread to the UK. I'm not interested to be honest. I'd rather wait for our Boxing day sales after Christmas grin

It's indeed a thing from USA. Every high time gets more and more commercialized and when there's none, they invent one :/

We were under lockdown and the plan is to buy lots of things I don't need, but from the high street. I don't actually like consumerism as such but bricks and mortar really needs the money. We're going to save the town.

I hear you— like I mentioned, “ sales” days are often a trick. But, for everyday economy, I use “ DollarTree” here, and “ Grocery Outlet” occasionally. I’m always amazed at the great one- dollar buys at DollarTree— don’t know how they do it, but have been using since 2002 and very satisfactory. Also, ( wherever ..) try the stores that cater to pubs and cafes— sometimes you must buy more, though, to meet the bargain. We have “ Costco” here, which is fabulous. My friends in Scotland and England tell me there are bargain stores there called “ PoundStretcher”, “ PoundLand”, “ B&M”...can’t always find what you need, but here, we seem to have fairly good discount stores.handshake

Someone is getting screwed, that's how. Either the environment or the workers or the buyers. Often-most, all three.

Yeah— there’s always free cheese in a mousetrap...Not to be off- topic, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg regarding inconsistencies. For example, we ( Oregon) have many laws prohibiting smoking in even outdoor/ parks, etc... while cars, trucks, road pavers with noxious tars and fumes rumble by thousands of times a day...one can’t have a traditional “ outhouse” because of the “ threat to the environment”, yet the “ legal” latrines are filled with nauseating green liquid that would burn a hole in concrete...get where this is going? I know you’re right, but every time you do almost ANYTHING it costs somebody, or some thing. Otherwise, we should all be living in grass huts cooking over a wood fire and heating at night with dogs curled up...everything’s a problem...drive today? You’re polluting the environment. Flush a toilet? There goes some water...turn on the lights? Take a medication? Eat a packaged dinner? Use a weapon? Go fishing? Someone has to pay somewhere down the line...handshake

what a motley crew earthlings! I was always amazed at people gunning their cars down Sunset Highway, yelling, screaming at other traffic, honking their horn and racing to get around cars— to do— guess what? Get to the beach so they could relax...roll eyes

Tulefell: Well... there is a lot of tragedies going on at every given moment: war, genocide, extreme poverty and starvation to mention a few. How often did it prevent you from living your life? You noticed this pandemic only because it affected you in one or another way.

Anyway, would you like to provide a list of topics that are too sensitive to discuss until... when?
Most people on this very thread have said they only bought food. That on itself should tell you something. Of course you live in fantasy land. Sweden has the largest number of selfish atheists for a reason.
