Sometimes when I view people's profiles I'm surprised to see that they are retired at anything from age 50 onwards In my country, I need to work until I am 66 years and 7 months until I can draw a pension. I'm 65 now, work 32 hours a week and love what I do so as long as my health holds up I plan to continue working up until that age and beyond hopefully. Sometimes I wonder whether people say they are retired as they are unemployed and see no further job prospects or whether it's about different approaches to retirement in different countries

Enjoy your life . don't worried you are still young woman. Until Heart is Young results human is Young. Don't feel 65 age . You think you are just 25. I assured after you feel 25 after one to months you look like 25 . Always wear clothes like 25 .
michaelright: Some sort of charity work would be ideal I guess,,
I've done volunteer work when in between jobs which was good to fill the gaps and keep me in the loop but I'm not sure that's something I'd be interested in as an option when I retire

Thanks Sunny
I'm not feeling old, just the opposite really as my work keeps me active, vital and engaged
serene56: Anyway this isn't meant to be about me, I'm interested to hear other people's views and experiences regarding retirement
I made a post above you..I kind of went off topic but you expect that from me..I have been in retirement since 26th of June..I hate it with a passion..I'm not talking about money I'm talking about no longer being productive as far as employment goes..I will never retire when I am able to go back to work

Hi Merc
But this isn't retirement, it's just a hiatus
I was in a similar situation a few years back when the business I worked for closed down..
Because I was pushing 60, people assumed I had retired and was looking forward to travelling the world or playing bingo or something
I only saw myself as unemployed/ between jobs so took on a volunteer role which ultimately landed me a new career which I'm still astonished about tbh
I admire how you have kept your spirits up and your motivation going under incredibly difficult circumstances..
Better days ahead lovely lady
I do sometimes vent frustration on my thread when I have my struggle days..But all that did was invite nasty people to my thread..So I have started to write in journal here at home..I do that so I don't burden family & friends..For me it's a healthy thing to do..People took my posts on my threads as me saying poor me blah blah blah..If we didn't have mods it would be a different story.
Anyway you better get this thread back on topic love

All good Merc, I'm happy to let my threads run wild and free

The ones that confuse me are those women over 55 , even up to the age of 60 odd who are not sure if they want more children .
Many jobs offer no retirement benefits at all. So, a person may have to work until they're old enough to collect a taxpayer based pension. In the U.S., that's social security.
However, there are many jobs that do offer retirement benefits after twenty years of employment.
I dislike the word ‘retired’. Instead, I prefer to say I have not worked for a living since I was 55. I guess I have been fortunate enough to have enjoyed traveling a lot since then until covid, there are only a few more places to visit in my travel bucket list though.
I was apprehensive about giving up working for a living but soon discovered there is a lot to life beyond that. My career government job in environmental science was becoming a bit to political for me so that made it easier to say goodbye to my career. Today, Volunteering in a local cancer hospital is rewarding and takes up a bit of my time when I am not making like a fish in water as I wait for the day traveling will be safe again.
