I am thinking of buying an aquarium for my home. I am interested in learning what others who have owned them think about the time involved in the care and maintenance, type of fish and other aquatic life, using fish sitters etc.

I am thinking of starting out with a 100 gallon aquarium or 50 gallon minimum tank with turtles, manta rays, piranha, gold fish, eels etc.

wave

I used to have a sea water aquarium.
A lot of maintenance...
Ph testing, cleaning etc..
And making sure that the fish are not sick.

And you have to make sure that the fish are well suited to each other, and what their needs are

Very expensive?

Well...gold fish and piranah are fresh water fish and the piranah will be eating the gold fish.

Manta rays and turtles need a lot of space.

Turtles need to get out of the water to lay their eggs on the beach...

Should I carry on?

I also think that a few lobsters would be appropriate as bottom cleaners.

Salmon would be good too, but they swim up stream and lay their eggs where they were born.

As for the turtles, after laying their eggs, they need to go back into the sea.
In which case the owner/carer (Gal) would have to make an exit in the tank and have a beach for the turtles ...

Anymore advice needed?

Ohhh...now you're talking Lee!

Btw dolphins are not fish, but cetacea, or aquatic mammal.

They're my favourites!love

But...no tank! scold
They need to swim about 50 miles a day...
And they live in a pod.
They need each other' s company.

What else?
They are very intelligent.

Thanks Dan_777... i was hoping that inexpensive aquarium caretakers were available to see to all the maintenance and health care needs.
