bodleing2: I joined C.A.L.M. some years ago and get their newsletters regularly. I've also made donations to what I believe is a very worthwhile organisation. I'm sure that over the years they have helped countless, mainly young people and prevented many suicides. In fact it was this organisation that was responsible for alerting the government to the appauling number of young lives, (mainly men) lost through an 'epidemic' of suicides in the UK over the past few years

It sickens me that people can turn this into some kind of joke and see is as an amusing topic to make fun of.
I cannot believe what he has just posted .Words really do fail me.very mad

Yes it seems the problem is even worse in Ireland, both north and south.
I'm just not sure why so many young people are desperate enough to take their own lives.
I grew up in the 50's and early 60's and I dont remember anyone, young or old taking such measures. Looking back, paticularly to the 50's, we had comparatively nothing, even the clothes on our backs were most often worn out or hand me downs. We didn't even have a television, which perhaps paradoxically is a clue to where the problem has it's roots.
We had nothing but we knew no different, we had nothing to compare to, that was our world and we laughed and cried as children do.
No celebrities to compare to, except perhaps film stars we saw at the cinema. Even pop stars were so distant from us, a crackly sound coming out of an old valve radio didn't influence us most.
You can see where I'm going with this. It seems to me that, ironically, the more we have and the ability to communicate instantly through modern technology, the more disturbed society, young people in paticular seems to become.

sigh

I can identify with what you say Bod, growing up here in Belfast we were in a full blown conflict with death and destruction a daily thing, I think you hit the nail on the head as we were stuck in our own areas and had little or no play areas except for burnt out or bombed buildings, and maybe throwing stones across the barricades.. It's sad to see so many young taking their lives for whatever reason..sigh

Very interesting points. One of the things that may have kept the suicide rate down in Ireland was the traditional catholic stigma attached to it. It was a brutal stigma but you'd have to consider the possibility that it was effective.

Hi. OK, it looks like several of us, including myself, didn’t know of this organization. Take it easy, man. People aren’t as bad as you sometimes appear to think…”easy there”..comfort

Tiger_Moth: Hi fantaziya

I try not to respond to a certain poster as the insults are frankly disgusting , but sometimes one has to try to contain the language that flows from their mouths only to be accused of stalking every time I appear . I don't live on here ,just pop in and out to chat to some really lovely people and interact as and when.

I don't know, or even have any desire to know someone of such a debase nature and their use of gutter language, but sometimes you just have to stand up and be counted.

With apologies.
Sometimes silence hurts more than a word.

If you read on from my first post you'll see I acknowldged that. Pehaps I should have aimed my comments to the OP for allowing the thread to go in that direction knowing full what the acronym represented.
When I saw the title of the thread I assumed it was an oppotunity to discuss a really serious problem facing many young people. Clearly that wasn't the case, probably due to the ambiguity of the op and the lack of responsibility on the OP's part in guiding his thread in a manner condusive to the subject matter.

I certainly didn't post here to degrade any community...I did not realise C.A.L.M was an actual charity.
So any offence cause is regretted.

My Brother in law committed suicide a few years ago.
The affects are felt all the time.

Good on this Charity among others who highlight that if you are not OK it's OK, but ask for help.
