I was wondering if any of you ever lived full time on a sailboat or considered living on one?

I worked on cruise ships for a long time, and even though I don't do this job for a long time, I still miss the water sometimes. And for the past maybe 2 years I've been thinking about moving on a sailboat. Sailboats seem to give you sense of freedom. Just the way I see it.

I love water. And yes I have thought about it. Preferable a house boat. Thing stopping me is the upkeep blues Don't need a lot of room to live, now a days they can fix ways for you to have all your needs in a small area. I have a friend that lives on his house boat. I have never told him but I envy his being able to do that. He is like me a lover of water so he is at home there. If you are looking into it, take your time and consider everything. Upkeep, having it pulled out of the water if need be for repairs or storage from a bad storm. If going to dock close to shore their will be a slip rental you get the idea wave

Perhaps you'd be considerably more free in a caravan, not that I've lived in one. I'd miss having a real toilet too much

As a navigator I did, indeed, consider that. But I considered my lack of first-hand knowledge of the rules-of-the-road for little ships re cost for docking, etc., a major impediment. Also, what's available for weather prediction changes every year. They say if you buy a small airplane it will cost you the same amount as the purchase price every year for the maintenance. I wonder if anything like that applies to small ships.

I slept on my uncles 36ft Cabin Cruiser one night as a teenager. It was the best nights sleep I ever had.

A friend of mine docked a sailboat in Newport Beach that he lived on for a few seasons.
He worked in Anaheim, Ca. as a lighting engineer at Disneyland. He also worked for
cruise lines like you.

It would be fun for a few days for me, but I like dirt, gardening, and driving my cars and my truck. But, a boat would be awesome to cruise around in for a bit.

I am sure since the sea is your way of life, that would be awesome for you. Total freedom from a cruise ship! Go for it!

Hi! I have owned several sailboats and now that I am alone and retired I have been gifted a 1932 Rhoades 32 foot wooden Sloop. I need to find a liveaboard slip on the Columbia River in Oregon, and after some minor TLC will be making the New, Old, "Sand Witch" my home. Nothing like living on the water as long as you can shower, have heat, cook; and remain on the surface. Best Wishes Captain, Mike
