shipoker55: actually....any topic that is controversial...I love playing the devils advocate. I don't like things that are "mushy"
Subjects with a little substance then?
I once belonged to a debating club where we were requires to be both proposition and opposition. The premise being that if you do not have facts on both sides of a topic you should not be joining the debate. Made for some fun discussions.

Rickster: I like informative threads. Like this one. A thread that gives us room to express descent opinions. I also enjoy reading your poetry threads.
I enjoy seeing other peoples' perspectives on a topic, frequdently others have more or updated information that expands and enhances my knowledge. Life gets richer with all the different flavours added in. Glad you like the poems.
My favorite thread would have to be the Say Something thread. But I also like the ones that make one think, that have a lively debate. I don't always participate but often learn quite a bit. Then again, I love a good laugh, so I'm always up for that.
I also read the blogs - yours especially, I read it every day now.

Your contributions always add to the threads i see you in.
Quality is something that is subjective. Value is a personal quantification. I like anything that provokes me to think, to muse, to wonder, to place me in a position of not knowing, because that position is simply intolerable to me, and thus will motivate me to expand my horizons.
Alot can be said for jokey, homey, getting-to-know-you threads, but I've reached a point on this site where I know who I want to know, and thus leave these threads for people who still haven't found their purpose here. My purpose is to expand my horizons, and if others come along for the ride, well, that is merely a biproduct of my selfish need to grow.
I like threads that either have some form of intellectual substance, provide interesting information that provokes discussion (JB's recent account of her tryst with Mr. McBoatman, for example), or involve humorous riffs. I think the best threads are the ones that combine all three. Not a fan of word association or person above threads or other related whimsical threads, unless there's something clever circulating in them.
The most popular threads in terms of viewer response seem to be;
bajanblue: 'person above threads
Fun when I am in the mood for it
bajanblue: CS town threads
Depends who is featuring. or or If I back the person, which can only be under the condition of having read him/her frequently.
bajanblue: word association threads

bajanblue: hardluck story threads.
If its someone I feel close too, I mean I have seen them around, or its a story like Fishinggirls , its hard to resist... reading
Threads like this one is a fav of mine. Gives everyone a chance to say their bit. I like a variety of threads depending on my mood. Sometimes I post but if I come in and the thread is already into 8 or more pages I don't bother. After reading through I see that someone else has probably said what I was going to say. If I do post I usually post my opinion and then leave it at that. unless someone asks me about something I have said. Least fav would be the say something to someone.

Mood determines which ones to get into. I like the Word Associations but really only when the words are interesting or the connections clever, I like the American political ones - if anyone listens to each other - though they are full of the most awful rumour and character assassination, I like the religious ones when they are pithy....which is rare, and I enjoy properly absurd ones but not mush or endless hello, hi, hello, exchanges. I don't believe that "the past" was much better - there are lots of good minds here now. Perhaps we just need ONE stimulating new idea from someone each day and the forum will feel good and vibrant!
