Random_Stranger: Try to take a joke and laugh at things, you will live longer, I promise you.
Hmm... sorry. Just that I see that idea a lot around, and I really don't find it funny. However, I do enjoy a lot of humor... just certain things don't strike me as funny.
Jeez, some religious people give God a bad name!
Lighten up, laugh, enjoy life. That's what God gave it to you for. We were created to be happy.
kidatheart: Funny you mention all the studies that have been done. Who profits from these "studies"?
We all know what is and isn't good for us, so why don't we choose to do what is?
The mayor of the town I'm moving to took $70,000 that was town money to improve the community and gave it to "someone" to do a study on what should be done with the money. Oddly enough there was nothing left afeter the study was done except a piece of paper stating there wasn't enough money left to do anything with the remainder.
This was several years ago and she's still the mayor. Smott peeples!
In the us they did study (3 million was the cost) to find out if second hand smoke was bad. They could have just asked me (duh ,if smoke is bad for the smoker ,,,wtf)
Richmond spent 5 million on a study on improving the city and the resulting data was a suggestion to raise the price on parking meters.
Our Mayor went to Africa to 'encourage buisness in richmond' ........? wtf did i just pay for? .......

kissmedeeply: Yes you are right..And i Know someone who never smoke a day in her life..died of Second Hand Smoke
There are other toxins in our enviroment. Sure it could have been second hand smoke,,,,,,second hand smoke certainly would not have helped. There is a lot of bad crap in our air , no one wants you to know but it is there.
Indyfella: To keep a really long story short...there was a commerical on the radio stations around here saying 250 people a year die from 2nd hand smoke. I emailed a local talk show host and asked him to follow up on the ad. He invited the county coroner in for an interview. The coroner basically said no coroner would ever put down 2nd hand smoke as a reason for death. Not proveable... Incidently, WhiteLies (anti-smoking group) quit playing the ad. I was amused
Medial journals ..... is where I read about it. Worked in a medical lab, after finishing college. This is where I read up on it..... and I was a smoker at the time.

Sure it could be the second hand smoke...It was second hand smoke that killed her...
I think the Dr. would know...
We are talking about smoking here on this topic...Not something else...
There are chemicals in the foods we eat...
In the air we breathe...
but that is not what killed her...SECOND HAND SMOKE DID
lorax111: I appricate your understanding of of my addiction that is marketed to teens ( so to replace the dead old smokers). Just be comforted by the thought that cancer does indeed cure smoking. Dennis
I wish no hard luck on you Dennis. But ... for many years people have known what cigs will do to you.
I'm sure one or two of you has been waiting for me to say something about this... so here goes
Smoking cigarettes does not CAUSE Cancer. ..Yes it's harmful to your health.. but it doesn't CAUSE cancer. What it does is "set the stage" for cancer causing agents to do their thing. It creates the proper conditions for cancer cells to develop. However, it doesn't CAUSE cancer.
As far as non-smokers whining about this and that blah blah blah.. more people are killed each year by drunk drivers than cigarettes.. ..ban alcohol! wheee!! let's see what happens then.
You can't just go around with this fascist mentality that if YOU don't like something then it MUST BE BANNED.
Personally.. I smoke cigarettes. ...but I also have a bit of class, so I don't smoke inside my own home, I don't smoke in other people's homes that don't smoke inside.. ...and I sure as hell don't smoke around little kids. I hate it when someone is smoking while I'm eating. And if you're gonna smoke in the car.. roll the goddamn windows down.

My point exactly. You enjoy your vice, and you enjoy it with RESPECT to others who do not share your enjoyment.
You are the exception that disproves the rule. You are a smoker with class, a rare find, indeed.
My hat is off to you, smoker. I dont want to stop you from enjoying what you do, I am only asking that you dont involve me in it. As you do not.
Many could learn alot from you, whether they smoke, or not.

I allways hate hearing someone say that 'the doctor would know'. We put too much trust into that statement, but that is another topic all in its own.
Fine, she died from second hand smoke, I certainly did not imply that smoke was good for a person but simply suggested that we need to think about what else we are breathing also. I'm not trying to be argumentive but just suggesting that we see with our eyes open.
Dennis ( Your friend died , I am sorry to hear that. but the living need to be consious of what they are breathing)
lorax111: Sorry the quote included more than I intended. Dennis
Yes, I am afraid, it is true, the smoke makes other people sick, so be considerate.
I went out to a smoking bar, and came home so sick. I have asthma, any smoke, be it from a camp fire, or cigarettes makes me terribly ill. I could not breath, I was gasping for air, It is an awful feeling, I cannot take the smoke. I can wash my hair and still smell the smoke in my hair. It is gross.
I used to be a smoker, until I got pneumonia, and had to be hospitalized. Now I have sensitive lungs.
Oh, yeah, my Dad died in April 2008 of lung cancer, I was with him when he died. It was a terrible death. He was a smoker, who said that he quit everyday.
