KHD100: Yeah.... the mayor wanted to change one entrance to the LRT because it was not not visually pleasant or aesthetic to Churchill square.... 3 bleeping million ..... to change the appearance of that entrance....

There are a few reasons I moved out of Edmonton, one being the extreme waste of taxpayer dollars.
Who's going to visit the art gallery that's more than doubled in cost and is climbing every day, when there are roads that need repair and replacement?
Why do they want to build a new colusiem downtown where real estate is worth a fortune, when there isn't any support for the people it will be displacing?
confused

Why does he....never mind...I've had enough of this city for one lifetime. mumbling
The councilors here sure do know how to waste money...wholesale.

I campaigned for poliicians in this city, only to have them do whatever they felt like doing after they were elected. I imagine it's no different anywhere else though.sigh

kidatheart: That might actually be a lot of fun.

I could see it being the next fad, where people get hammered, strip down and get into big clear plastic balls and bounce around bumping each other. I just wouldn't want to be the one cleaning up the aftermath.

Would it be like blimps.... flying and crashing....... boink.... and they just float apart....

Harry you need to learn to think outside the box! lol ......... it would be fully self-contained units therefore no mess to clean up ...... no need to strip (lol - where did that idea come from???) ............. it would keep the environment smoke free (regulating unit that would process and filter any harmful effects).

Yup, and who they can take it from. My property taxes have almost doubled here in Lamont in four years. I haven't seen any improvements done or seen any new services added.

I am a smoker, yes it is bad.
I am fine with the smoking bans. I just would like to know one thing though, people can say that second hand smoke causes cancer, fine
What about all the cars that everyone drives that pollute the air and all the garbage burning plants that pollute your air. I am sorry to say this, but I think that the world has bigger pollution problems than the smoke that is coming from my cigarette. JMO

One could easily make an arguement that smoking in public should be allowed. After all, public places are intended to be utilized by everyone. Certainly smokers pay more in taxes than non-smokers.

Secondarily, I somewhat believe that people who have a huge anti-smoking agenda probably have deeper issues regarding controlling others.

ask then how much their life style improuved after doubling your taxes

i know
i know

yu were not talking abut those improuvements, but be positive

Probably not. Probably from just what I said...being a non-smoker....But little minds have little vision.

kidatheart: I happen to agree with you, even though I still smoke. The fact that more money is pumped into the coffers than is taken out by smokers that negates the health care cost and nullifies that arguement. We'll get taxed to death long before smoking kills most of us.

It's the political "bandwagon" that concerns me more than anything else. Who's next?

I agree with you, Kid, and with Portiea. I still smoke, but I certainly pay for it.

You will hang on to your opinions despite any evidence contrary to them...which to me signals a complete lack of vision. But, that's it. Not bothering. Be mean...I know you will...go ahead and say mean things to me...make my day.

kkitty: I agree with you. Honestly there is so much pollution that effects everyones health and it seems so lame that people always want to blame the smokers.
one car causes how much pollution in a day?
Does this not cost?
how many studies are there on how many people get cancer just from the air pollution ?
personally I know what it does to me. I pay for it three times over.
there are so many different issues with health care cost and I am just saying in my own opinion that I think the smokers are a small part of the picture.

Funny you mention all the studies that have been done. Who profits from these "studies"?

We all know what is and isn't good for us, so why don't we choose to do what is? confused

The mayor of the town I'm moving to took $70,000 that was town money to improve the community and gave it to "someone" to do a study on what should be done with the money. Oddly enough there was nothing left afeter the study was done except a piece of paper stating there wasn't enough money left to do anything with the remainder.laugh

This was several years ago and she's still the mayor. Smott peeples!rolling on the floor laughing

People have known for 50 years it's unhealthy to smoke. If people didn't want tobacco products, they would cease to exist.

While I'm making an attempt to quit, if someone else want's to smoke....have at it. It's like anything else, it's a pesonal choice. I don't care to dictate my values onto someone else.
