yeah - sadly, her boyfriend died too - Id only introduced them to each other a few months before too - four beautiful friends in one night - it really was horrific, Jack and Charlie were amazing kids and such a credit to their mum too and Billy, the boyfriend, he was just such a hive of intellect - and such a pain to think of the memery - but the point Im trying to illustrate is that this Lady hasnt lost everything and hopefully, her life will continue with purpose and that I wish some of that purpose could be directed towards making sure that steps are put in place for this sort of thing to become an increasingly rare occurence...............
To those of you who requested an update, it's so touching everyone is so concerned, can't email you all back at the moment.
Well the guys bail has been changed from 170,000.00 to 900,000.00. No more word on her condition. Krista's mom is trying to get the charges changed to attempted manslaughter or attempted murder, obviously they aren't going to do that until more investigation is done. Krista's mom also said that he had threatened to kill Krista and the kids the day before.(Hmm... There we go, premeditated...) His mother is disputing it all, saying he only threatened to kill himself. And that he thought she went out the back door and couldn't hear her screaming. (Yeah right, yet all the neighbors did)
gingerb: You are judging this man on your own ability to control your actions in any given situation. He is not you!!! Not everyone has the same degree of bi-polar disorder. Not everyone is medicated the same. Not everyone is even diagnosed on the same set of symptoms. There is no saying that his illness and yours are similar in any but the most basic name for a very diverse condition.
Doesn't matter. Its based upon everyone's own choices made, through out their lives. We are all responsible for how we behave and interact within society. If society deems that behavior to be intolerable, than society should literally destroy the person in question.
Frankly, this guys choice to drink probably did have a greater impact on his thought process than his "bipolar" disorder. But once more, it was his choice to drink. First drink, or last drink. His choice, his responsibility.
MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Police said a bipolar man who was off his medication and drinking heavily tried to trap his girlfriend inside their McMinnville home after setting it on fire Wednesday.
Neighbors said 38-year-old Krista Wiegel was busy packing up in order to leave her boyfriend, Larry Barnard, when the incident occurred at their doublewide manufactured home.
Neighbor Mardee Weiand said Barnard poured gas all over and used matches to ignite it. He then escaped from the burning home through a front window; he was naked after apparently shedding his burning clothes.
When Weiand stopped to ask him if anyone else was inside, "he just kind of glanced at me and walked across the street to their other house he was working on, smoking a cigarette – like nothing," she said.
Neighbor Tad Bliss heard the woman's screams and tried in vain to rescue her.
"I just felt really bad when she screamed, 'I'm going to die in here,' " Weiand said.
Police officers eventually found the woman on her back in the kitchen and were able to rescue her through a back door.
"Her hair was all burned up," Weiand said. "Her clothing was burned off in some spots…"
Though she was expected to survive, she was in critical condition at last check at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Meanwhile, Barnard, 38, is facing arson and assault charges and was booked into the Yamhill County jail on $170,000 bail.

It is sad...BUT I also wonder why knowing all this...his mother didn't intervene and to get him some help then...rather than making excuses after the fact....now it's too late....she could have perhaps stopped this from even happening.....

A mother would never believe that her son would do this, witch is nice in general but unfortunate in this case.
It is so sad for Everyone involved, I have lived thru this myself 25 years ago. Was married then and My brother in law had same condition, his entire family was in denial. tried 3 times to kill himself.. he finally accomplished it the third try. I tried my best for over 4 years to help this man, but it was a lost cause, he was so far gone that nothing could help.
Did exactly the same thing , but just himself.. no one else was hurt. he poured gasoline all around the inside of his house, then sat right in the middle of it and poured gas all over himself and lit it.
People is this state of mind should never walk the streets again, others will be in danger! This is why we have prisons just for the criminally insane.
That doesn’t mean premeditated if insanity comes into it , Ftr going on the fact that he was offered bail instead of being section I doubt he would be able to successfully use a n insanity defence
This clown shouldn't get any kind of breaks at all, and maybe now, those who tried to take shots at me for not wanting to date bipolars, after already having my dangerous little enounter with one, will all know just how far they can FO.

It's too easy these days to use temporary insanity, any medical condition,, even P.M.S., as an excuse to get away with murder etc.
Some times I wonder if a person, stops taking meds, or has pre planned what they are going to do? For example, take something like booze to make it look like they are drunk, or high... so later on they can use that as an excuse.
How do you feel about someone using the "I was abused .... " excuse? JMO... not everyone that was abused turns out to be an abuser, and some people never abused, turn into abusers.
My heart goes out to the young lady who was burned. If she survives, she will not only have to deal with her internal scares but will have to handle the burn treatments.
There was a local situation in which a police oficer was tourched. He lived but the photo of him after recovering was ugly as hell. The news paper quoted one of the doctors as saying ' we have to remove all the burnt skin, or gang green will set in. me and another doctor began removing the burnt skin and I kept hitting bone, at one point I said 'are we really doing this guy a favor?"
