monsieur: Is it quite possible to fall in love with someone by only emailing over the internet and talking over the phone without meeting? What do you think?
Be clear over that you are falling in love in a virtual person, a fantasy. You need to meet to see if it fits in real life too.

For some people it is, for me, I would prefer to meet a person and spend time with them.
Whilst I enjoy chat via email and the phone, I prefer meeting people.
i agree- otherwise you are falling in love with your 'impression'of the person- need to meet and see the chemistry- mental and physical, t know- see how you get on over time

It's happened...
I think... in this day & age, it's a common practice.

That is called falling in love with the idea of love, or in other words, infatuation. You can feel like you've fallen in love, but till you meet I don't think you can really know if you're in love with them or just the image you've made of them in your head.
It is possible for this kind of feeling to turn into real love, we have some examples of success here to prove that. But you have to be really careful not to idealize the person so much before you ever meet them that when you do meet, the reality will have no chance to live up to the fantasy. Life is not virtual, there are realities to having a real love.
shipoker55: I seriously doubt it. You may think it's love. But till you actually meet and know what each other are really like, it's only infatuationJMO, of course
I would rather have infatuation than nothing at all

Yes I would say it is. But its very easy to fall in love with the idea of who you think this person is. For that reason I will not look for a partner who lives more than 100 miles from me. Someone close enough to spend real time getting to know her face 2 face.

It's quite possible - till the first meeting.
Then (if two of you can get over the shock), you can start anew and eventually fall in love with a person... or just go separate ways.

Not only is it possible, it's easy. For some reason our brains fill in the missing info with incredible stuff, mostly hopes and dreams. Which is why it's better to meet sooner rather than later before your brain runs completely amok.
