Well you're right there...marriage takes two...so there is a need for another willing party....I don't recommend getting drunk and going to the Elvis Chapel though....being too drunk and waking up in the morning to suddenly realize you are married can lead to an annulment quicker than you can say the word husband or wife.....

no, not really. i've had a couple of long termish partners and I remember one which ended badly because we were so bored of each other. i'd wake up in the morning thinking oh god not you again. happily we did split up though

to me, marriage is sacred. Before you are legally married, you are just in a mutual agreement that either party can decide to do away with with little to no legal ramifications.
But when you are married, it is duly recognized by the state. There are other rights such as visitation, etc. which are much easier to bypass when legally married.

Hugz_n_Kissez: I see marriage as the biggest personal commitment two people can make to each other...that's about the only purpose I see and about the only reason I would want to marry....All the other impersonal stuff I can do without.....sometimes it's not the words but the actions one takes to solidify their bond that makes all the difference between....I'm here until the going gets rough and then I'm gone or I'm here through good times...bad times and all other times because I love you that much...at least that's what it should mean when you get married...if it doesn't then don't bother..... I believe very much in marriage. I wish I had the chance to be married.
For those who have been married and are now on this site, I am sorry it didn't work out for you, or I am sorry for your loss. But at least you went through something very memorable...weather it was good memories or bad. It will probably never happen for me, but I have to come to grips with that.
People tell me, "you aren't missing much", or, "it's so hard, you may be better off never being married". Maybe there is some truth to that. But I never had the chance to find out for myself.
I believe very much in marriage. I wish I had the chance to be married.
