The Barnum effect is the name given to a type of subjective validation in which a person finds personal meaning in statements that could apply to many people.
The Barnum effect is an expression that seems to have originated with psychologist Paul Meehl, in deference to circus man P. T. Barnum's reputation as a master psychological manipulator who is said to have claimed "We have something for everybody."
UMMMMMMMMMM...Nope...The only statements I know which apply to me are if they are being said by me or spoken to me by someone else....other than that...I hold no such delusions....

Is that like when you think you are going to win the lottery until you actually read the results! In that case it happens to me every week!
mike69spain: You have been reading to much from the Say Something threads
I am lucky if I catch something really meant for me.
Btw, and this is for you personally I leave from here tomorrow night.
Yeah isn't that something like someone droning on and on and on and on...about something you have no clue about cause something might have been said to one of the 5 million people around the world who frequent CS but by god that person knows it was for them....

It has nothing to do with having delusions
If you have a need for other people to like and admire you, and yet you tend to be critical of yourself. While you have some personality weaknesses you are generally able to compensate for them. You have considerable unused capacity that you have not turned to your advantage. At times you have serious doubts whether you have made the right decision or done the right thing.
That's what the Barnum effect is too many on here.... You read the post and threads of many on here
IMHO.... that's what I've spotted going on in here for a few weeks....
PS: this not a personal attack on any one person.. it's just an observation
