If you were in the market for a pet...are you more likely to look at purebreds or would a mixed breed do?

Or if you have one already...why did you choose that one?

Female dogs are like female women. The "purebreads" are high maintenance, very costly and think their crap don't stink. "Mutts" on the other hand are fun & loving and a whole lot easier to live with...rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

I have been around dogs all my life and it seems like the mutts are more healthy. The purebreds I have owned usually have problems specific to the breed like ear problems or hip problems or allergies.

Didn't choose, it just happened! He was a stray, we saw him and fell in love with him on the spot....been around 15 years now. I wouldnt have anything other than a mixed race dog....mine's part English Staffordshire and part Australian dingo. His mix is so affectionate, gentle and intelligent, couldnt want for better. And he doesn't bark!

I myself have owned several "purebreds" in the past.....

This time when i chose one it was a mixed breed....it had nothing to do with the money spent, or even the intelligence of the dog, it had everything to do with the fact that there are so many "stray" and "unwanted" dogs out there...that "encouraging" breeders to produce more animals just for the purpose of accommodating people's lifestyle (designer dogs), and monetary gain from "working" an animal just revolted me.....

sorry, but unless you run a 'puppy farm' which good and ethical breeders do not, there is no money to be made from breeding pedigree dogs, it is done purely for the enjoyment of owning a wonderful animal, and in the hope that those genes may be passed on

I have two Doberman/Lab mixes right now, both rescues. I have also had purebred Dobermans before that were rescues. I've also had a Doberman/Great Dane mix that was a rescue, a Lab/Shepherd mix rescue, and many cats that were rescues. It's not the money, it's the fact that there are so many pets out there that need a good home. I have no problem with reputable breeders, and I think a purebred dog with a good pedigree is just as good to have as a pet as a non-pedigreed dog, or even a mutt. I just prefer to get mine from rescues and give great dogs a chance at a loving home rather than euthanization.

Dknew: I'd like to have a rottweiler, Beautiful animal and can be so gentle.

I've found Rottweilers to be one of my favorite breeds!
Rottys have a really bad reputation...IMO, it's due to irresponsible ownership and breeding...and over breeding.
This breed is such an extraordinary one...such loving, brave, loyal, and yes...protective dogs...These animals will put themselves in between their owner and any danger-whether it's real or just suspected...
They're natural born clowns...big goofy nut cases....but ya gotta love them...some of their antics are hilarious...
They love to please their owners. Although a bit stubborn...these dogs are highly intelligent. With the right incentives, they train relatively easily...although I did have a bit of trouble getting mine "house broke" for a while when he was very young. For some reason, he was somewhat resistant to the idea of "going" outside...laugh
Rottweilers are strong willed animals, physically also. They absolutely need a strong minded/willed owner or there could be trouble on the horizon.
My suggestion, for anyone looking into owning one, they should research the breed a bit...IMO
I'm definitely not trying to talk anyone out of getting one...they make fantastic pets!
I dearly love mine and wouldn't trade him for anything!
One thing I will mention though, some are more aggressive than others...many factors could cause this...over breeding...genetics...mishandling...etc...
Do watch your Rott...Rottweilers and German Shepherds are notorious for hip dysplasia...They both are the "poster child" for the hip disease.
I've had mine for almost 2 1/2 years...a decision I've never regretted...He and I are so in tuned to one another...I know and can sense when he feels bad, or when his hips are bothering him...and he knows and can sense when there is something wrong with me...it may sound hokey...but that dog and I are some how connected.((Or at least that's what my husband and Vet thinks.lol))
**This is based on my own personal experiences with my Rottweiler...I'm in no way, shape, form or fashion, any type of expert on this breed**
