Doin’ rain, etc...
Long, long ago, in a jungle far, far away..., as a teenager, I used to love reading the Tarzan novels,[heck, I still do...],
Anyway, the king of the jungle taught me an interesting take on life,
In one of his earliest adventures, as he was crossing a vast plain with no cover in sight,
A torrential downpour descended upon him and his humanoid companion,
Now, if that ever befell me, as it did a couple dozen times on the plains of Africa,
Man, I would b*tch and moan sooo loudly that even the lions would give me a wide berth, which, luckily for me, they did...,
Tarzan, and his companion, however, reacted quite differently as you may imagine,
Like the half beasts that they were, they huddled down on their haunches, and,
Simply ‘did-rain’.
Doing rain, rather than becoming half-psychotic about it, can be a lot of fun,
Once, as I was having a brunch at a cafe, in Johannesburg, the skies which were crystal clear and blue, suddenly filled with dark, and grey, and ominous, and murky and billowing clouds, which then turned into one of those heavy torrential downpours,
As the other patrons scurried inside, I decided, I would ‘do rain’,
To everyone’s amusement, and, my own, initially, I just sat there, under the totally inadequate umbrella, which I was foolishly counting on to protect me, and, I did rain...,
Soon, hail, joined the rain,
Right about now, the better part of valour, would have been to retreat inside the cafe,
Not me, mate, I was not about to lose face like that,
I just sat there, eating my wet brunch, sipping my cold coffee, and I ‘did rain and hail’...
So often in life, the noble Tarzan taught me,
I may come across situations from mildly irritating to greater degrees of discomfort that are immensely disconcerting to me,
Tarzan taught me that I can either ‘do rain’ or get pretty psychotic about it,
Mostly, I manage to ‘do rain’...,
Don’t get wet out there now...
Ciao for now...

Learning to fit into life rather than be "controlled to inaction" by it, has been a refreshing experience. I learned the joys of Doin’ rain, etc... while hiking for a week in Ireland. It was nice to leave behind the normal concerns of dryness and warmth to be at one with nature in its awesome beauty. [In all honesty, however, I must add, I would have enjoyed myself at least as much had it been sunny and bright!] As far as the rest of life goes, I'm still learning!

I guess you now just go with the "flow!"
Great wisdom here...
Is an interesting experience.
Better than psychotic feats
Is endurance and resilience.
I would rather take advice
Given casually in the end:
"Don't get wet out there now...",
And as better part of valor
Will retreat inside cafe.

Tarzan, Pellucidar, Barsoom... Burroughs was a genius with a lot of wisdom tucked into his stories. Thanks for reminding us of this pearl in Tarzan. Well done!
