Seven-billion mark by Halloween; by 2050, estimated at three billion more. Contemplate: what is our planet to do? Will there be enough resources for me – not to mention, what about for you?
Environmental damages, already great from various agricultural endeavors contribute oxygen-depleting gases as global warming effects of weather add fuel to the war of the classes.
Children should not be into poverty born living lives as insurance premiums paid to hedge parents’ bets against old age as fertility rates drop for the wealthiest leaving stunned demographers in a daze.
With two children per woman required for population, in balance with needs, to remain both too many and too few have costs to pay. Those fighting family planning will eventually see theirs and more lives crumble away.
Unless solutions, real, deal with the growth we’ll crowd into spaces once human-free as population explodes to numbers untold. Then, we’ll understand the benefits many of planned births and senses control.
GNJ, i like the MANY fine points you shine your luminous thought too in this billion faceted gem. "as global warming effects of weather add fuel to the war of the classes" is all too true. Mother will be overwhelmed at all her children sooner or later, too many kids begotten. And the rhyme scheme is great too! ;-)

Hi GNJ
Yours is a dark and chilling account of one of the biggest and most dangerous threats facing mankind - right up there with nuclear destruction.
A population of 7 billion by Halloween is indeed a scary scenario. I never ever thought I would hear myself espousing Orwellian solutions such as mass compulsory vasectomies - I consider the idea repellant, and yet in the third world where the population explosion is endemic it is hard to envisage any other scenario that would actually work.
The mass medication of woman with contraception pills is not practical. One thing is for sure - if governments do not start addressing this problem, perhaps eventually the human population will be wiped out by famine and pestilence.
Your poem is certainly a wake-up call... A great write.
Wow very enlightening poem. It really brings home just how much of the worlds problems, if not all, are a direct result of us being here. We need to learn to get on better with our planet.
