Peeping off into the still dark A little late sun begins to rise Listen to the song of a meadowlark A soul of mine awakenning so wise New asters in a pasture embark A banner all their glory decries Changing of the guard do earmark A time when summer slips in demise Shady beeze flutters with Monarch A most noble king of butterflies Off in a distance some dogs bark A stirring of leaves rattle in surprise So many signs of change to remark A time to watch, listen, and surmise

About this poem:
A stiffenning breeze rolls out steady over the hills of these green mountains....shaking the now brittle aging leaves which drop to the ground one by one.....
Hi, Yankee4you, Surely, fall's stirrings a Changing of the guard do earmark. Though sad for the losses your beautiful Vermont sustained, I am happy to see you and your poetry made it through Irene to note the beauty in late NE summer.

Hi Yankee
Great narrative, and to continue the same rhyming pattern throughout all 14 lines makes this a very skillful write...

A little late sun begins to rise
Listen to the song of a meadowlark
A soul of mine awakenning so wise
New asters in a pasture embark
A banner all their glory decries
Changing of the guard do earmark
A time when summer slips in demise
Shady beeze flutters with Monarch
A most noble king of butterflies
Off in a distance some dogs bark
A stirring of leaves rattle in surprise
So many signs of change to remark
A time to watch, listen, and surmise
This is a beautiful poem.
