Curve in the Road

The windows are down and my arms feel cold
I drive the backroads this cool autumn day
Thinking of her I see a curve in the road
Much like the curve that she sent my way
The breeze causes the hair on my arms to bristle
My eyes squint as the afternoon sun penetrates
The words we exchanged were like thorns in a thistle
The shimmering sun's rays generates
Too brightly into my searching eyes
I feel the sensations entering into all my pours
It contrasts with the thoughts of how love dies
I see a myriad of shimmering colours
Much like tiny rainbows as the sun
plays with my eyelashes.
I always knew you were the one
In spite of the occassional clashes
Now I become acutely aware
Rainbows always remind me of you
As you were full of wonder and so very rare
Your colours are gone and I can only see blue
As I approach the bend and the yellow backed arrows
Point to the right to warn of the sharp curve
Somehow they suddenly project all my woes
Then I see your face and the life I deserve
And I get a feeling of deja vue.
I skid through the corner and life is a blur
I've been here before when feelings were true
Now the arrows seem to say "Return to her...
...return to where you are supposed to be!"
Before the hurtful words that stopped our heartbeats
"Where you were always meant to be"....now I see!
You were the piece of the puzzle that had made life complete.
