Tight are held our darkest clusters Close to heart we cannot tell Even those who trust us well Hidden our blooms on sunniest days Meant to share our darkest shades Only for those special who notice Flight are occassions to get away Flock our seeds in familiar ways With each other we are more casual Right is what we always want closing ranks against other ways Against those who want to control us Fight is what we were born to do Give up hope we will be screwed While losing ground is shameful Might is what makes us strong As long as we can get along With all our sun loving neighbors Sight is swayed by our emotions Believing more than we want to see Smelling sweeter than reality Night is where we make our play Really have to avoid the day That's why we are 'night flowers'

About this poem:
The sweet fragrance of flowers that bloom only at night...... perhaps pollinated by moths and attractive more by smell than by sight...interesting analogy.....isn't it?
Evening Primrose (Oenothera) Angel's Trumpet (Datura innoxia) Night scented Stocks (Matthiola longipetala var. bicornis) Giant Evening Star (Mentzelia decapetala) Night Phlox "Midnight Candy" (Zaluzianskya capensis) Four O'Clocks (Mirabilis jalapa) Daylilies "Moon Frolic" and "Toltec Sundial" (Hemerocallis)
lots of members of the day lillies are actually night flowers....most are day bloomers...go out sometimes at night and take a walk around and you'll see what I mean about how much more fragrant the night flowers are...

How dull our world would be without flowers. I love to sit outdoors on a summer evening drinking a glass of wine...with the sweet smell of "NIght Scented Stock" permeating the night air.
Such a beauftiful poem Yankee.

Thank you Yankee that was a very enjoyable read! and I learned something also.
One of the things I love most about nature are observing and learning flowers...the ones that point their blooms downward and smell bad, (like rotten meat) are called the bloodroot ( a powerful herbal plant)....and guess what pollinates them.....insects thats why they point toward the ground!! very cool

Nature sure is magical and always fascinating, I will certainly remember your poem and make the most of any night garden I come across. Thanks again Yankee
