Beware of the excessive life Leading over a cliff of doom Living high in a king's place Will eventually lead to gloom Tear away from a cozy world Stoking dopemine in a brain Boredom of habituation whirl The halls of comfort disdain Folks of Sparta know the place Be not fooled a promised life Struggles you need to face Comforts only leads to strife Satisfaction is breaking routine Seeking pleasure is in your head Gratification will best sustain All so good to trust instead Being sessile leads to stress Stop sitting you lazy drone Sometimes good to feel duress Stepping outside of your nest

About this poem:
Happier is the soul who struggles for a meaningful life...the body that craves exercise....and not one who clings to security of the same old....same old....step out there!! Turn off the TV and go for a long walk!! You will feel happier!!
so true...the difference is amazing...great write Yankee4you....

This is very true, we need trials and sufferings to strengthen the spirit....we can't be always in our comfort zone because it would be an unchallenging, sterile life. A great write indeed!
Thelma...glad you like it....what you say is exactly what I feel the good life only makes us soft and weak....we absolutely need a challange to feel alive....

Hi yankee
You hit this nail fairly and squarely on the head: Reluctance to leave the cloying comfort of the armchair does indeed lead to lassitude, lethargy and laziness.
A fine write

Superb thought provoking poem Yankee...so many people do not know the pleasure of the great outdoors...I love to get out into the mountains whatever the weather...if more people did the same there would be more fitter people in the world.
I work outside all day long everyday and walk great distances. I see and experience so much of life in my small community. There are many relationships between the world and us and how we feel is affected by what we see and experience.
