Death's Bell Chime

You think you can dream your dreams
While I labour at just living
You who plot all your schemes
And never think of giving

You walk past the beggar's hand
With not a second look
Poverty you believe should be banned
As you quote from a holy book

You ignore the pleas of sick and dying
A mantle of righteousness you wrap around
So holy are you, you hear no crying
So certain are you, you're heaven bound

But let me tell you loud and clear
That when you stand at Pearly gates
When you see Heaven so close, so near
That you will be in dire straits

I know thee not, be away with thee
For you have not loved me at all
No matter which way you might phrase your plea
It is down to Hell you will fall

So think while there is still time
To change the way that you act
Once you hear the death's bell chime
Then too late for deeds to retract

Wow....that is something to ruminate on....it never hurts to say a kind word too.... and charity is what keeps the old chair rocking...

Thanks Maxeen_1, yes we are all sinners but we can always aim to be just that little bit better. Succeed or not but at least we can try.
