He approached me as I was reaching the office door His clothes tattered and unkempt My hand was digging in my bag Searching for my keys 'Can you spare some change so I can buy Some Biscuits and cheese for my dinner' I looked at him Instinctively about to say sorry and close the door Then I caught myself A tiny sliver of guilt niggled in my brain He is hungry No-one should be hungry I pulled some money from my purse And as he took it He said to me I will never forget you You may forget me but I will remember you

About this poem:
This happened this evening after I returned to the office
Excellent write, I can dig it. It shouldnt be hard to think about but sometimes we have to. Loved your actions and how you described it, like I was reading your book...Jesse

Jesse, Thank you for reading, I try to help whenever I can but I think I sometimes get cynical and start saying no but if the person says they are hungry once I have cash it will be given. No one should have to beg for food and the cost to me was minimal. Appreciate your comments as usual.

Hi Shadow, Thank you for reading. Thanks for the compliment but I must say I was about to say no but what he wanted to buy was something to eat and that hurt me most of all. Glad you liked it.

No one can say NO to someone who says they are hungry especially if you see that look of hunger in their eyes. You are a lovely person with a compassionate heart.I'm sure you would not be forgotten.

Hi Paloma, You may be surprised that a lot of people do. Thanks for the compliment but I will remind you I too was about to say no then I stopped myself. Thank you for your lovely comments and for stopping by.

A very touching story: Because of an act of kindness by you, one of the very many unfortunates on this Earth will go to bed tonight with some food inside them... even if it's only for one person for one day, you have made a difference.
Very best wishes
Bill

Bill, Thank you for your kind comments. I really didn't think of it in those terms. I knew I had to help but I am ashamed of my first instinct to say no. Thanks for stopping by.
