A September Day Tribute

It’s happening again this September
The echo of the cries of 3,000 souls
So very difficult in mind’s eye to remember
The emotional drain each year takes a toll

The sights and sounds of buildings falling
Trying to fly like birds on the wind
Tortures the souls of those remaining
Wishing the memories would be dimmed

The definition of 911 forever changed
Heroes and murderers were born that day
Each in their own way coming to fame
Both facing burning Hell come what may

The murderers are still there to this day
Leaving others with tortuous memories
The Heroes were able to fly away
Facing Hell they left legendary stories

Stories revisited each and every year
For some these stories are of brave men and women
Others the memories still recreate the fear
As each of these visions is summoned

For me I think of 3,000 new stars in the sky
Each one winking at me from above
As I look at them way up high
I send each and every one of them my love

Thank you youras for you compassionate note for the innocent victims of 9/11. It continues to today as people are still dying for the side-effects of that fateful day. crying sad flower

A brave and appropriate commemorative write for this time of year. These cowardice acts never go unpunished.....thumbs up

Thank you Harriett. I borrowed your description "Tribute" and edited the name of the poem - thank you for that and for your kind words. hug I just wish the world could again come together united again as they did that day but only without such a tragedy.

Thank you Christian. I felt something should be said to remember to remember the innocent souls who lost their lives that day. Wish I could have been more eloquent in my wording, but did the best I could. Thank you.

Thank you Kathy. I will always remember where I was and what I was doing that day. If our area had been hit (we didn't know who was attacking at the time) - my office would have been on the front lines as I worked for the Public Health Nurses as a secretary at the time. Very frightening day.

Phil - to those of us in New York State it felt like the beginning of the end of the world. But it was amazing - people had a different outlook on life for days after. They were very patient, looking out for each other - hugging each other even though we didn't even know each other. hug There was so much compassion and we were united together for a long time after.thumbs up Why can't they be the norm? So sad. sad flower sad flower

I haven't written a new 9/11 poem this year but the memories of that fateful horrible day remain even 17 years later. Lest we forget. The world has not improved any - in fact it has gotten worse. We never learn from our mistakes.
