Proper Parenting

A babe is born naked and pure,
A blank slate of infinite promise.
From his arrival into our world,
We teach and preach and tutor.
We define all his limitations;
Educating him in all that cannot be,
Finding and sorting and showcasing his faults.
We bless him with our dysfunctions,
Teach him our skillful conflict resolution
And chip away tirelessly at the magic.
We clip his wings and hold back things
And mold him, forming him, shaping him,
making him, glazing him and baking him,
Hardening him into what is proper and good
And we do it all with love.

hmmm!...i don't quite know how but you are able here to take what we think or thought we should have done and made it into a 'no we shouldn't have done that', very clever and thought provoking GH

Thought provoking is an apt description. Do we do more harm or good? I guess as long as it's done with love, it has to be more good.

Hi, gardenhackle,
A blank slate of infinite promise... civilization can exact such a high price.

Actually as babies we are born knowing more about what is right for us I think than we do by the time people are thru teaching us. Long story won't bore you. Good writeteddybear
