stele

those lines etched into hard stone
glyph from some unknown alphabet
men, women, boys and girls shown
back from ancient worlds they get

to tell of old flesh and bone
some king or prince of local renown
who sat then upon their age-old throne
retrieved now from some lost 'n found

their days upon earth all numbered
long ago battles fought and lost
no different ours are so encumbered
peoples enslaved and women accost

what was gained of land and power
all etched into those ancient runes
what was lost of human flower
dug out from some forgotten dunes

Thankyou GG, sorry to put the cat among the pigeons, (Previous comments), but I think that to report on human nature or emotion, from an unbiased point of view, you need to have a deeper understanding than most. It is for an editor to put their point of view, I think.....Nice write, nice piece, thankyou.....Andrew.

is there a file for mysterious?
i think these stones are full of mystery,
a mystery we would have to travel back
in time to unravel...nice write,

thank you all for your kind comments. I was introduced to the term, looked it up (on Wikipedia...where else!) and wrote the poem.

anblu45, all words in this poem are English, though much of English language is borrowed or had root word origins in other romantic languages.

don't worry Gashly about it...we'll get our chance to be stele runes/ruins in time I'd wager. ;-)
