Last whiskey with Charles

A last whiskey with Charles
who despite the body
in the motel pool
hadn't abandoned
a good cigarette
nor a calm gait
and a figurative tale
of the debt collectors demise
foreclosure being but a concept
to Charles
rational to the core
as the sirens
and red and blue flashes
highlighted his receding hairline
we sat back
and basked
in the glory
that consciousness
and rational expression
had conquered another day

The Sound of Truth

We have all heard what we wanted to hear
"Truth" that sounds right to our ears

But what wisdom is there within us
To live based on the feeling of our hearts
How many times has instinct let us down
Never to be thought through
Never to be questioned
Say what you really mean
When your ambition calls you
For what use is there in praying
If you will only hear what you want to hear?

We speak of fighting to resist this world
But what about the battle within us?
If we have chosen to live against the grain
Then why are we all facing the same way?
There is no difference between us and them
If we all blindly seek truth from sentiments

Why is it men must sometimes beg a woman?
(That's even worse than on a bended knee)
To grovel like an insect on a common -
For something that should basically be free.
At twenty-two and feeling that day wanton
(T'was not a thing I should have done for thee)
And only once - two hours to get it on
So beg I did - and her name was Sharon.

Well at last that girl she then relented
(Just maybe out of curiosity)
You say by now that I should have repented -
Not mired myself in promiscuity?
I say this: to refuse an ego dented
Is to plunge in black despair - monstrosity!
I wheedled and I begged and I pleaded -
Just so I could give her what she needed.

She about the same age in St Peters*
And we were young and not at all in love
Well I'm just glad that no one came to meet us
(As we stole into a bedroom up above)
An act designed by nature to complete us
(And something to myself I had to prove)
At least that day we had an empty terrace;-
Wherein - and very soon - our hearts did race.

Good reader, I should spare you the profanity;-
The act performed - and that act only once.
On her part t'was a form of charity;-
Go through the motions - defy common sense.
Well, what is young lust but insanity?
A fever of the blood (our recompense)
I met her years later at a funeral
Where she thanked me for that single numeral.

She Gets By with Saying I'm Sorry

She gets by with saying I'm sorry
While I get stuck with a broken heart
Women get away with a lot of things
And it happens right from the start

She's had a really good life
While I'm still waiting on the lottery
She made somebody else a really good wife
And I have to pretend it doesn't bother me

She says she didn't know till recently
How I loved her so
So she offers a little smile of pity
Now how is that suppose to soften such a terrible blow

She gets by with saying I'm sorry
And I'm the oldest clown of all
Women get by with a lot of things
As they hang home sweet home on the wall

Up Hill Battle Down Hill Age

It's an up hill battle and a down hill age
But don't say I didn't try
I wrote I love you on about every page
And someday will come when you see goodbye

Old men shouldn't write love letters
That's for the young at heart to have such treasures
Now social security is my only wage
It's an up hill battle and a down hill age

The tears upon my cheek missing you is what they speak
It could be that never again we meet
I wrote I love you on about every page
Forgive me now as it's an up hill battle and a down hill age

Masks?

I'm less than a week away from getting my second shot
Then it's two weeks to get away from being hot
From these masks that make you breathe in your own carbon dioxide
It is not worth trying to hide
I will not miss these blue masks
I have enough to do to make up my tasks
Just sifting through the endless crap that people spew out
It makes me want to scream and shout
What about other things that should have my attention
Wasting my time on germ retention
There are real things to be enjoyed that I am missing
Like love and joy and lots of kissing
So I wait in anticipation
For this hoax brought on by our nation
What will they think up next?
To try to get people from having sex

About this poem:
We got the word that starting in June there will be no masks required at work if you have your covid shots and have two weeks after, then they put a sticker on your badge. Those who are afraid of the shots have to keep wearing those darn masks.

In your shadow

I walk within your shadow
among the dark hidden hallow of your love

Blindly I walk through the night looking for your light
I cannot see anymore
I lost my sight

To you my beloved across the shimmering sea I am nothing but, a hardened cold memory

Too many years
of bitter tears
we have shed
within an empty bed

The cold silent air drifting within our winter's lair has become the only thing left we have to share

Though we may welcome the
warmth of our fire and lustful
desires
They are but, distant dreams being washed away within
silver streams

It's been a grand journey and experience
as my mind and heart has been changed with your brilliance and radiance

Yet, today I come to embrace the darkness as I see your hand gently slip away

I am falling apart in disarray
there no more hands reaching to catch me as I watch my life pass like grains of sand through your hands

Though I played too many emotional games that drove you insane
I get what I deserve as justice
ordains

No more reason to complain
It's just a time to refrain
to let the healing begin
from the constant pain

One can only forgive just so much
there comes a time when one needs to put away the memories upon the hutch

It's time for new beginnings
and let the past slip away
to welcome a new day

A time for new loves and new thoughts to embrace and wipe away the tears from our face

In a uncertain world today there are many new possibilities
and responsibilities

To stand once again and spread our wings to allow hope be a new song we sing

Better days ahead and maybe better suited partners filling our beds.

Though it seems for some they may think their game is over
Its only a spring cleaning
of the old self when we shall stumble upon that 4 leaf clover

May the winds of change lift us to brighter horizons
I shall meet my beloved once again upon calmer seas and a comforting breeze.

Two Stars and The Moon

What was time doing hanging on forever
Keeping track of our separate lives
Coming and going my days without your nights
My darkness without seeing your light

Are you still the one and only one
Who lights up on the distance shore
What makes the whole world get in the way
I just do not understand anymore

When the same sun shines on your door
When we can gaze into each other’s dreams
Feel the rain crying for us to come home
Am I the only man standing on this shore

My weathered face lined by its many storms
When only we can change what we choose
Keep dancing around in circles in the sand
When we are just two stars and the moon
