stringman: Jesus came to earth to save man and teach them the way of GOD's laws.this was GOD the fathers plan to send his only son to save man from his sins. jesus knew HE would be crucified before anyone planed it.this was the purpose of him being born as a mortal.GOD sent the laws to live by, but man turned from GOD's laws. relegion and GOD are two different things. religion is man made, GOD always was and always will be. GOD said go spread the word of GOD. not any particular religion.
To whom exactly did this god say that? Were you there?
ttom500: 1) Christian rites and services vary greatly from one group to another. What is practiced in Orthodox Christianity is vastly different than what is practiced in Protestant or Catholic Christianity.
Cults tend to force a specific form of service on the followers.
Christianity offer a very wide range of service.
2) Christianity is about honoring Christ, the savior. And the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. You have to be born again of the Holy Spirit to understand this. Then real worship and fellowship with the father can occur.
3) You can call God a deity. But it is little bit more complicated than that. Over history, there have been many different Gods. Aztec Sun and Egyptian Sun God....Native American Indian ...Mother Earth God....the Greek ancient God from Posideon to Hades to Zues.....the Roman Gods.....from Neptune to Flora to Mercury. What is the difference between the Christian God and these?
The Christian God is living spirit. Man tried to make these in stone or wood or metal. When he did, he just made false dead Gods. It was man trying to make God in his image. Rather than God making man in his spirit image. 4) My Christian church feeds the poor, send missionaries abroad, has youth classes, and adult fellowship classes. This week the men's group goes on skeet shooting trip. But we have gone deep sea fishing, done BBQs of wild game, worked at the Church to keep the property in good form. Hosted a day of games and treats giving for the local youth on Holloween. This because many kids get razor blades and pins in the candy these days. So I see a great deal of diversity there in the activities of the church. And a Church doing good things.
5) Yes, the Christians has the cross as it central symbol. It represents Christ death and resurrection. But it also has the fish, the alpha and omega and Holy Bible and even folded hands in prayer as symbols of the faithful.
All organization of some kind has a symbol of recognition. Make no mistake the Christian Church is a organization. We just claim the God the father to be head of it. That by Christ his risen son, we can honor him.
54xmax: I do not even believe he existed. So I don't have anything to hate about or of "him". Actually for what is worth the message that it is claimed to be from "him" is something good and positive.
What organized Religion did with it, and how it portrays "him", now that is what I have a huge problem with. - - - The way "he" is portrayed by the bible is a fairy tale for children - - - "he" is a copy paste of Egyptian god "Horus" - - - Everything about him
Which only proves what an idiot you are sir. Pick a bible up and read it sometime all the way through I dare you to !
I think it is a cult - Here are 5 basic points why I think so:
1. A belief in the core cult dogma that is independent of facts, logic, or even one’s own intuition. In other words an absolute and blind acceptance of any information provided by cult leaders and literature as undeniable fact. To begin with, many people have come to Faith not through literature or leaders, but by personal experience and an unexplicable feeling of warmth and goodness. In a logical sense, it makes no sense. But some people do seem to possess a true energy that surpasses all understanding.
2. Tendency to isolate from the rest of society, often justified by the suggestion that those outside of the faith are wicked, lost, etc Try to resist lumping all people of Faith into one large "negativity" group. Many are open, and positive, and accepting of spirituality. Some can see the difference between Religion and Faith.
3. A compulsive need to recruit others into the cult. Again, not at all. Many of us simply live our lives and don't go around knocking on doors offering free toasters to anyone who "joins the team". The more I know, the more I realize how much I just don't know. i don't pretend to have all the answers, and I just mess up things when I attempt to interject my ego. 4. The deriving of most or all of one’s self esteem from the cult collective and the cult dogma. Often cult members will see themselves as worthless (because this is what they are taught) and will insist that only through the practice of the cult’s teachings can they serve the world in any worthwhile manner. Quite the opposite happened to me. Self esteems grows with understanding and self realizations.
5. The complete loss of individuality, logic, and objectivity. The only reasons for continued existence becomes the serving of the cult’s agenda.

Unless you have something to study that King James bible with like Strong's Concordance of the bible which takes it back to the Greek,Hebrew and Chaldean languages in which the bible was originally written it you don't know sh** In order to understand the bible you need to have a Strong's Concordance because one word can have several different meanings.

54xmax: 1. A particular system of religious worship, especially with reference to its rites and ceremonies ( Christianity has those )
So, which particular sect of Christianity is the one you call a cult?
""religion
noun 1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.""
As we can see, a religion does not have a universal syste of beliefs but rather a moral code which sects or cults adopt to use on their own in worship.
Hence, Christianity can no more be a cult than Islam or Buddhism.
heartofgold34: Which only proves what an idiot you are sir. Pick a bible up and read it sometime all the way through I dare you to !
Pick up a book by Osho and read if you dare. People with a lot of fear in their soul, are so afraid of different thoughts and beliefs. And they adapt very, very easily the doctrine of that a devil or satan do exist.
Faith is different from proof, and you prove nothing with an ancient text, and you prove nothing with a subjective experience. It will be the guiding force in a person's life, and that's good.
But dare to be critical towards how the Bible where put the together from 66 books. Early christians didn't have a Bible, therefore Paulus travelled around in the Mediterrenean. But Paulus never read the gospels, because he never quoted them.
For me the lack of stringency from the Old Testament, to the gospels, to the letters of Paul, was the cornerstone for me to definitely leave the christian faith. Today my mission is to help doubters that it's not dangerous to be an atheist, agnostic or to belong to another faith. Because hell doesn't exist. Show me one..just ONE passage in the Old Testament where hell is mentioned. You can find the word "sheol", but that's the kingdom of the dead.

5. The complete loss of individuality, logic, and objectivity. The only reasons for continued existence becomes the serving of the cult’s agenda. Now if you take a step back, and look at the principles of Christianity, or any other religion for that matter in short:
Irrational Belief In Core Cult Dogma
Christians, like everyone, have their own beliefs about the origins of the universe, the meaning of life, and the nature of right and wrong. However in almost every case, followers of Christianity adopt what they are taught by their pastors and priests, and what they read in their biblical texts, as their own truths.
Justified Isolation From Society
The core Christian teaching insists that the world is EVIL, and only those who accept the Christian faith will be saved from eternity in hell. Therefore many Christians are afraid of anything and everything that is not directly condoned by leaders within their organization.
Compulsive Tendency To Recruit Others
Anyone who has spent much time with strictly RELIGIOUS Christian friends knows very well the policy of conversion this organization practices. In fact they believe god has charged them with the task of turning everyone in the world into a Christian.
Deriving One’s Self Esteem From The Cult Collective
All humans are born evil and unworthy is one of the most basic teachings of the faith. And a primary reason for this belief is the assumed fact that Eve, the first woman ever created, collaborated with a talking serpent to steal and eat a piece of fruit from a tree god specifically told her not to bother.
Complete Loss Of Logic, Individuality, And Objectivity
How people choose to think, believe, and even act is completely up to them. But I become concerned when a group - any group - has a clear and aggressive mission of subverting and disrupting the rights of other people in an effort to impose its edicts upon the masses. Creationism is a good example, another good example are catholic school camps, where they brainwash children - - Get them while they are young, as when they become older, they can resist the brainwashing. To conclude, I would like to emphasize, that I do not have anything against people with faith. But there is a difference between people who have faith, but still think with their heads, and religious people who act, and live their lives according to 5 points stated above.
One more thing - - - I think all main religions on the world, are operating by 5 basic above stated points.
What is your take on it?
This is an excellent thread and very profound. Yesterday when I was talking to friends, one had said a something very typical (a quote from The Bible) "Lean not unto thine own understanding", which is a 'tool' Christian leaders use to convince followers to blindly agree and obey. My question has always been, "but gee, what if you get the wrong preacher?" (Like Jim Jones, for example.....) We all have brain cells. I think they're there for a reason----HELLO!!!!!!

Dont forget the other few wrong preachers, like Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton too. But then again, people are gullible to fall for the Nigerian Scam too. So is it a lack of education or is it indoctrination? Just a thought. Nothing like a fun conversation.

HenryRoth78: hahahaha ... You believe in a mythical God. Now who's the idiot?
I would tend to say you are. Instead of holding a conversation, you resort to calling people idiot. You can call people who dont agree with you, what ever you want. But it sure doesnt make you any more right as those who disagree with you are.

am i to be killed because of my beliefs and deep faith when i belong to the old catholic roman church like all my ancestors ? it's a question of education and the history of your country first .. well i think that the danger comes from the lack of communication and understanding between people from different faiths or even agnostics and atheists.. now thats polemics everywhere about religions and cults.. people still do die nowadays just because of their beliefs and cult practices like in the middle age.. I find that AWEFUL !!!
sheesh people, always thought we were entitled to our own opinion and that includes belief in whatever u want so calm ya farm ...for those who like to pick apart another person's ideals about religion in any shape or form are not in my opinion open minded but rather closed minded as they see nothing but the good book and quite frankly its not that good and needs to get with the times...To each their own i say and i think his poll was accurate, some need to come out of the closet so to speak or shut up and dont attack people for what they feel and think...Good on you mate :)
