The fact that you are even asking the question makes me wonder how true your friendship really is. Of course you can't date your best friends ex especially if you want to keep them as your best friend.

Even if your friend has moved on....they are an ex for a reason and would be rather awkward for your friendship. I wouldn't go with any of my friends ex.

My best friends husband is my friend as well. I communicate with both of them and encourage them to ride through the rough spots. He is like a brother to me. She sends us to purchase items together and if she is busy he will drop me home. I feel if you can get involved with him after they have split, you might have had that interest all along. That will really hurt your friend.

Chances are there is something more going on here, like covetousness prior to any break-up with your friend. Whether or not you wanted that person prior to the break-up, I think its better to just look elsewhere unless you like unnecessary drama.
