How do you trust others? Do you trust others up front, unless you're given a reason not to? Or are you skeptical of others, until you see they are good? I used to trust others right off the bat when I was younger, but as I've gotten older I'm kind of skeptical until I see proof of good character.

The only thing I assume when I meet someone is that they will show respect. Trust is earned whereas respect should be a normal trait. I think it's good that you are skeptical but not to the point that it makes the person feel uncomfortable.
I have learned to be a reasonably good judge of character..... trust is earned..... and sometimes, especially with family - unconditional love must be given even if I don't trust them......
WhistlingDixie: I trust my friends to a point . Iff they come to my house , is ok , But iff i leave the room and leave them on there own for 5 minutes , i always search them on the way out . This has got a bit unpleasant at times , so i have now put an X-Ray Scanner by my front door , and installed Cameras in my front living room . I dont like to think im a mistrusting character , but we just cant be to carefull these days .
tell us a story of a few of those unpleasant times uncle whistlingdixie - pleasssse!

Your topic made me remember an incident that happened while I was working at a hospital. The LVN [the following is unbelievable, but true] working in the Drug And Alcohol Rehabilitation Hospital was on her break when one of the patients asked for his cigarettes. I was working on a pharmacy order, and delivering some PRN's. When I rounded the corner, I saw the patient opening the cart. I calmly asked him for the keys, which he handed to me. I approached the nurse, and asked her what gives. She openly admitted she had given him the keys so he get his cigarettes, as she was "too tired, and on her break". Let me get this straight--we have an in-house patient here on a mandatory order because he can't stay away from drugs, and you, the licensed tech on the floor give him the keys to the medicine cart? She responded that she "trusted" him. She was canned, by the way.
