And half the time the treats are more or less invented by the media or by government officials.
For example, the often repeated supposed threat by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to "wipe Israel off the map".
That "threat" never existed.
Ahmadinejad never said anything of the sort.
In a speech to graduating students he quoted the late Ayatollah Khomeini in saying "Imam ghoft een rejim-e ishghalgar-e gods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."
This literally translates to: "The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time".
First, it is a quote of the Ayatollah, not Ahmadinejad's own words.
Second, it is not a threat of violent attack, but a wish for a political change. And a very understandable one, in my opinion, in light of the situation.
Certainly it is less offensive than the US's calls for regime changes in various nations around the world (and their covert and overt activities to achieve them).
No nation on earth wants a war with the US (or the West in general).
On the contrary, even major rivals such as Russia and China want peace for as long as possible because economically they are gaining power every day.
The only ones who want war are Western warmongers who want to stir up a shooting war to rob the riches of other countries before their own economies collapse indefinitely.
